Jerome is less fragile so probably him

that is not the case. last season was the first time Jerome played >50 games in a season. Just two years ago, he played 2 games in an entire season. He
has had off and on ankle problems his entire career.

just looked it up, he's badly hurt both ankles having surgery on at least one as well as having season ending groin surgery once.

he is definitely a risk looking at his career games played numbers.

Can they still look at Jerome instead of Mann if the same price as Jerome at least has size and is a PG not another undersized combo?

They can still look at Jerome, but that would be the MLE. Would eliminate that as option for the Center spot.

With Mann, you can still use MLE on Center.

this is probably the most important point to me.

He’s not with $7m a year. So we didn’t give it to him. Thats fine. The question is whether we’ll be able to actually get him or if he has plans to go elsewhere for the minimum. I think he could help a playoff team, if he stays healthy.

Giving him the qualified offer turns him into a restricted free agent. Otherwise now he's an unrestricted free agent. So on the surface I guess I see this as one of two things. As a restricted free agent your kind of telling the player, hey we like you but we're not going to bid against ourselves to keep you, and if you don't like it you can sign the qualifying offer and become unrestricted next year. By not offering the qualifying offer and turning him immediately into you and unrestricted free agent you're saying one of two things. One, you're not really in our plans at the price point you're looking for. Best of luck. Or we feel pretty confident that both parties want the same thing and to return on a longer deal than could be agreed through the restricted free agency process.

Jeff recently said that they fully expect him to be back... but that could just be corporate speak and things could have changed since then, like The sexton trade, the draft etc...

If the plan was to let him become unrestricted in order to negotiate a deal for a longer time period. Couldn't we have just simply done that through signing him to an extension?

Is it possible the Hornets just weren't comfortable with the whole back injury situation? Is it possible that we're trying to move away from as many of the long-term injured players as possible? Or just a logjam at guard spots.

My gut says he won't be back.

Many magic fans are hoping for Mann. How is he in the locker room?

Adding Sexton changes the roster math. Don't need Mann back.

I think there is a spot for him and I personally thought he was a very entertaining player so hope something gets worked out, but after last night's trade, he became way less necessary. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I don't recall any stories about him causing any issues. Also don't recall him being super visibly social during his ample time on the bench.

I want him, the more depth we have the better. I do not want to have to go sign G league guys just to field an active roster.

IMO not extending the QO at a minimum seems poor asset management. I'd like to keep him around even if it's on the one year. It's not like they don't have cap available

Sign him, Curry and McNeeley inactive, jettison NSJ and Green.

LaMelo and Kon starters
Sexton Mann James and Curry backup guards
Miller and Miles starters
Grant Tiddy Okogie McNeeley backup wings
Moussa starter
Kalkbrenner backup center

Really no room for NSJ or Green unless they two-way Sion James, but he has the same defensive skill as Green if not better.

Need to package a few of these players into another big that can shoot and rebound.

Curry is not needed at all...

Melo/Sexton/[KJ]
Kon/[Mann]/NSJ/Sion
Miller/Okogie/Green/Jeffries/McNeeley
Miles/Grant/Salaun
Moose/Kalk

Backup forwards and starting C are big problems. It's hard to know what to expect from Grant after blowing out his knee. NSJ, Green, one of Okogie/Jeffreies, and Salaun are a lot of wasted roster spots. Less than our average number of wasted roster spots under Kupchak, but still more than most teams.

I feel Mann and Okogie are a bit overrated on this board but still wouldn't hate bringing them back at the right price.

I'm also fairly indifferent if we don't retain them.

Mann should check in with Milwaukee, could be a great place for him to score off the bench and play finals.
