Didn’t think he would be extended but that’s a 6m increment this year and 2 additional years so not that far off free agency when his fellow draftees hit free agency .

Makes sense. Thought it would be 7~ mil a year, but he's a great chemistry guy and semi-useful.

Not really. It's just sort of his value. Less than the MLE, fringe playoff rotation guy. Can give you often forgotten 15-20 MPG in the regular season.

Very happy for J-Will. He has obvious limitations, but he's a good player who totally accepts his role and is a phenomenal teammate. I don't know if he's still on OKC by the end of this contract when the financial crunch comes, but I'm really glad he got paid.

Yeah. Seems about right for a solid third big who can give you 15-20 minutes a night in the RS and spot minutes in the playoffs without getting you killed. Maybe a little high, but worth it to keep a guy who knows the system and is liked in the locker room

He is a pretty good post defender with good steal and charge numbers. Also has been able to stretch the floor from 3 within the last year and is an underrated passer at the 5. Per 36 he's at 13/12/6/1/1 shooting nearly 40% from 3 with a 59TS%. He's a poor man's post prime Marc Gasol.

If I were the Raptors I would have paid the full MLE for him

You would be disappointed in him playing 20-25 MPG and paying him the MLE.

I had a couple of people I trust tell me they thought he'd make MLE money in FA. Seemed a little high to me but he balled out in the few games they started him. Put up basically a 10/8/5/1/1 statline in 9 games as a starter in only 24 minutes. Small sample but he showed some shocking playmaking chops.

I've been down on him for a couple of years and he really brought me around this year.

This is kind of essentially 3rd center territory, though, right? The kind that usually just jumps around on vet minimums? Like, Thomas Bryant started 8 games this year for the Pacers and put up 12/7/2/.75/1.1 in 26mpg. And he’s clearly a minimum guy. :dontknow:

I just genuinely thought Williams would pull roughly half what he is in this deal. Like 3/15 as a bit of an overpay for being the locker room dude he is?

I mean this is like OKC kept him at 2m and then he got 2 years $22m. That's clearly too much for him.

I think he's done well here. Don't think he gets over $5m on open market.

Yeah, I might be overvaluing the playmaking. He did triple double in the last 3 games he started (outside the NOP one where he played 2 minutes), which feels like it counts for something? They used him as a primary play initiator for a lot of stuff. That from the 4/5 has extra value, I think.

Anyone got the guarantees? I’m kind of assuming years 2 and 3 are fully NG.

OKC smart to just keep the band together knowing these are all movable contracts if they spring a need or if they just need to dump salary for budget reasons.

Yeah, my thing with Niang was that even if his market was technically $8M per, tax teams can't pay guys who shouldn't be on the floor in the postseason more than the minimum or BAE. I was glad to have traded him.

Maybe OKC would be comfortable giving him real postseason run in case of an emergency, but that's the test.

Even if the second year is guaranteed, now that we know the third year is a team option* we should like it more for OKC, right?

OKC buys the upside and can easily afford to dump him if they decide to as an expiring under 8 mil next season.
