Two things the previous regime did that drove me nuts. One was over-rostering undersized combo guards. The other was bringing in vets to block promising draft picks. So when I heard about this trade I wasn't initially happy

I’m not a huge fan of his archetype, but Sexton at least looks stronger than the waifish combo guards previously paraded thru here

I would have kept Nurkic and Mann, and aggressively gone after Jerome, which I’m sure makes y’all happy I’m not GM

Seems like a great personality so in the end I'm hoping he works out

it feel like it would tough not to start Sexton

Sexton is undersized, I think they will bring him off the bench. He'll still get his 30 minutes but I can't see it working starting him with LaMelo

With Mann seemingly not returning I wonder if we work on an extension with him now

Sexton is a career -2.2 DBPM player. He has never posted a positive DBPM in a season. I hope we don't make him the full time starting SG. It will be the LaMelo + Rozier backcourt all over again.

That backcourt won 43 games.

I'm sure if you added up their cumulative record together over multiple seasons, it would be sub .500.

One outlier season where we were hot from 3 and won games by virtue of out-shooting teams alone isn't a recipe for success in the postseason, as evidenced by the play-in blowout losses.

Sexton's had some rough luck team-wise. Gets drafted to Cavs the year LeBron leaves. Cavs spend three years in cellar like everyone would've expected. Year 4 he gets injured, and misses the Cavs 44-win season. the Cavs S&T him to the tanking Jazz in the Mitchell trade. Three years there and he's traded to the Hornets.

He's a good player, but far from perfect. Very Rozier-like in a lot of ways. He'll help offensively and hurt defensively. In fact I'm not sure how our backcourt guards anybody lol

Pretty sure they did talk to Jerome's people behind the scenes and he wasn't coming to Charlotte FWIW.

Anyways I'm thrilled the Hornets have two of my guys now. Peterson might need to go after Herb now.

Also need to add I'm fairly sure Peterson and Klutch finessed Ainge here. They were apparently talking during the draft about Sexton and then Jazz lost all leverage after drafting Clayton. Say what you want about Sexton but he's super competitive and was one of the guys in the Utah lockerroom that was upset about all the tanking and "resting" last season. Klutch reps both Sexton and Nurkic.

Cool hope we'll see you on the board quite a bit then. Believe we'd all be happy to have Herb here

I think he is the second team point guard whenever Lamelo is available.

Lamelo
Kon
Miller
Miles
Center 1
And
Sexton
Green
Liam
Grant
Center 2

With KJ, TJ, NSJ, SJ, center 3?, all playable too

I figure Sexton will be the 6th man and key reserve. Kon will start, but Sexton will get more minutes and may be closing out games especially with Brandon still on the injured list. His scoring is situationally better as first off the bench than any defensive deficiencies he may impart.

That's my thinking too. Microwave scorer with some real weapons but the defense holds him back.

Rod buried the lead on this. Check out this quote right before he said what's in that tweet:

RB: What do you think Collin Sexton can bring to this team and what did you know about him previously?

CL: From afar, he was very competitive. At times he would stare me down during games as the opposing coach or scout coach, and he’s always looking for some fuel to get him going. So, when he first got here, I made sure to remind them of that, ‘Like, don’t be looking at me crazy like that anymore or your minutes are going to suffer now.’ But it’s great. I’m so glad to have him on our side.
