Assuming the two NG's are waived and we sign Martin to his minimum, we are currently (just) under the tax.
If they want to address the C position, even by adding a single minimum salary player, then yes, they will need to go into the tax. If they wanted to add a C and not go into the tax, then they either need to trade for said C (and not take on excess salary in the deal) or need to make another trade to free up enough wiggle room to sign one.
Doesn't that put us at 13 active players on the roster (including Martin and CMB)? You have to have 14 players minimum, so we're effectively in the tax once you slot a minimum in that spot.
Scottie
BI
IQ
RJ
Jak
Ochai
CMB
Dick
Walter
Temple
Mogbo
Shead
Battle
Martin
Lawson and Castleton waived.
That's 14 guys. And 300k in tax room, 1.9M in apron room.
I suspect they will get someone making the roster on a non fully guaranteed deal like they did with Fernando last season. That will make it easy to waive at a certain date and get under the tax.

They don't need to be below the tax line until the trade deadline.
Lot's of time to make a deal (even a small one like trading Ochai).
you lost leverage though if u go into season being over cuz u gotta pay to get out
Raps likely duck under it to start the year and just play it safe

Assuming it's a vet minimum deal, that only buys you roughly 10 games of that 15th guy - something probably better saved for a 10-day deal or two later in the year if needed due to injury.

We will see what happens but they tend to like having competition at camp and rewarding guys that do well, so that will play into it as well depending on if anyone stands out.

So what. Maybe Lakers didn't want him. I'm talking about Raps.

Your arguments are tiring.
I'm giving opinion on what Raps should do in free agency.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

This is how smart teams that are not-within-their-window assemble assets. They leave themselves space and wait for one of the underachieving teams to throw them draft picks to take on salary to help get them under the tax line.
It is also how treadmill teams lose twice. They don't have space to tax help/absorb and they end up paying for tax help/absorbing.
That said... I think a team that is firmly in the mix for a post-season spot can start the year over the tax and work their way under if then need to by the end. Gotta give yourself the chance to get to the playoff revenue. And in the East, just about every team should be thinking that way. Including the Raptors.

Too risky for Raps to act that way coming off 30 wins
plus u gotta think Bobby being cautious and smart right now (as he should be) with his boss being fired and another person coming in since every move will be amplified ... not to mention he's auditioning for the gig as of today

Agree. We just need to get past this year. Cap goes up another 10% next year and we get breathing room back, even with a raise for Poeltl. I don't want to use assets to solve a temporary 1 year cap crunch. The 15th man bring nothing most times anyways.

This is surprising... Mann was one of the best things Charlotte had going last year.
Well its actually not that surprising in that case lol.

Can't remember the details, but there was concern his injuries were more chronic in nature. Meaning, if he isn't somewhat reliable, better to cut ties.
