Ayton getting bought out is pretty wild. Makes sense given their center situation to just get rid of him. Kinda surprised they couldn't find a taker.

Hes a 35 mil expiring contract with this CBA most teams just cant afford him. Teams are being super selective picks are even more valuable because the equals cheap talent. Teams dont want to go over that 2nd apron. Lakers been looking for a big since trade deadline im sure the blazers had a high asking price now look a buyout lol without getting anything for him. But with this 2nd apron bull they probably rather just buy him out then trading and bringing in somebody who makes just as much on a longer deal

Ayton likely goes to Lakers. I think he'd be smart to go to the Celtics. Ayton, Brown, White, Payton, let's see what you got... He'll get the opportunity to show he can star.
But, I'm not sure he cares about stardom anymore

Just anytime a guy making that much gets bought out this early is a pretty big shock IMO. Typically you just hang on to the contract in the event that there's a big trade to be made.
I'm also just surprised there wasn't a team that would have stacked matching expirings.

I think teams are being very selective this 2nd apron **** got organizations shook lol. Also like I said people want to.hold onto draft picks more then ever because you can draft a rookie on a affordable contract. Blazers rather buy him out then trade him and bring in a player with a similar contract but they might have 2 -3 years left making 30 mil

Yeah, I'm just thinking if I'm a team like the Wizards, I would have flipped Middleton (also expiring) for him. Portland saves a few million, Wizards get a guy that can actually play.
Or if I'm the Bucks and can find a team to give me expirings for Kuzma, I would flip that and Connaughton for him.
If the bar is get us less money in expirings back so that we can spend less on a buy out, it seems like that's something they should have been able to accomplish.

Seen a tweet about 20 mins ago from a reporter cant remember who but they basically said what i said the blazers didn't want to bring back anybody that would be in a long term deal. Im sure they looked at every option for example lakers need a big they are desperate but they are dumb enough to trade contracts and give a pick

The 2nd apron is serving exactly as intended: a de facto hard cap.

The thing is there's another reason there's no market for him: He's not good at basketball. Portland was a better team when he didn't play. His defensive net rating in particular is alarmingly bad. Not what you want in your "defensive anchor". His TS% is pretty terrible considering he has zero outside game. MIddleton if healthy has more value because he does something well. Ayton is an empty stats guy who's a decent rebounder.

With the report now that Ayton is leaving 10M on the table, the buyout makes more sense

Re: NBA General Discussion: 2025 Offseason
Without digging into the details and going off memory, I honestly don’t know how the Nuggets have burned through so many 1st that they now need to give up their 2032 first just to get Cam Johnson. They’ve always felt like a team that mostly just retains solid players, then lets them walk once they ask for extensions, ever since Jokic hit GOAT status.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Money is just an illusion if you’re with the Lakers

Bucks stretch waiving Dame is sheer lunacy.
Then they went out and got better.
