I find it odd People say CMB isn’t explosive
I find him just fine on that end
Seems strong and can finish above the rim
Might not be VC15 but who is
He does remind me of KL2 though

to me it's like the base is a lot like Scottie, but tweaked a bit. A bit smaller, less vertical explosiveness, similar strength-wise, similar handles, better lateral quickness, better finisher, worse shooter, worse playmaker, better at getting to the rim from the perimeter, better at getting to the FT line.

Since the Raptors don't leak I guess the NBA leaked to ESPN? CMB was a surprise to many in the media so why did ESPN know more than anyone else?

I think it’s because CMB was first on Bilas’s rankings

They talk about Maluach and then Bilas said that CMB is first in his ranking and then camera showed CMB and Maluach (back and forth)

Or like you said maybe ESPN got a leak as well ?

Or a mix of both ?

Bilas said Maluach is the obvious choice but CMB is the best player. CMB had been his best player available for a bit up to that point and they were talking about him between every selection if I recall correct.

depending on how cmb looks, i could see some minutes shared as cmb being small ball center. he's strong.

but that's more a long term question. he's a rookie so expecting him to contribute right away would be tough. there's also a timeline where one is traded down the road.

I think we'll see more Scottie at the 5 this year. He has almost the exact same build as Bam and can definitely handle the offensive and defensive responsibilities at the position. Opens up a lot of playing time for our wing rotation too.

I don't see it man. I think Barnes' is much more suited to play PF. If we wanted a C, why didn't we take a full sized one? Why we always taking guys and wanting them to play out of position.

I really, really don't like this pick.

You'll like it. You'll all like it. You know its probably not gonna be the Jokic/Embiid types that CMB really struggles to defend. He's gonna have a bag for those guys. Its more likely going to be tougher with the long and athletic forwards like Pascal Siakam and Anthony Davis. Those are the guys he's gonna have trouble guarding. Its gonna be very similar to Draymond Green.

To be fair, when those guys are clicking, there isn't a lot you can do regardless of who you are. Pascal is a mobile big with something of a handle and a jumper, coupled to some post skills. He's pretty diverse. No one will confuse him for Dirk, but on a night when the J is dropping and he's hustling baseline to baseline, you're gonna be in for it. And AD is extremely good at moving without the ball around the paint and in the PnR. Tough to guard those types, especially since he has reach and mobility.

man this kid goes downhill and attacks the rim in a way i wish scottie could do now...he has strong handles and trucks his way in with his big body and has a high foul rate too...basket attacker and post scorer with nice moves and footwork, and he gets to the line which checks a lot of boxes

he can be a star doing this with great defense, if improves his perimeter game he has superstar potential

I notice CMB doesn't get bumped off his line the way Scottie does. I imagine it's the extra weight and lower center of gravity...but also mentality and the amount of force he plays with. I also see some Lowry like processing and knowing where the play is going to blow things up.

I wish he was more vertically explosive...but maybe it's something he'll develop if he works on it.

As it is, I'm hoping he continues to have success beating his man in tight spaces. He looks like a good advantage creator and maintainer. Very fast processing and some creativity.

The biggest question with him will be how much of his game translates against NBA size/strength/speed. If it does he'll be great.

It’s kinda funny how utterly unique Scottie and CMB are in terms of comps.

I don’t even know how to comp CMB. Not explosive, can’t shoot, elite at getting to the rim with a live dribble, great face up game and is a tier 1 defensive player. Also has incredible body control.

What is even that? What does that look like in the NBA.

There were numerous times last season Scottie couldn’t walk his man to the basket. He’s just really unrefined and lacking a feel there. He doesn’t use pump fakes or hesitations or anything it’s really garbage outside of the turn around fadeaway. I envision him having to be the one that is the floor spacer between the two, so it doesn’t look good really. But we’ll see.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Yeah, those are some nasty comps lol.

CMB is one of the best iso scorers in the draft.

I see some comparables with Paul Millsap.
Undersized but strong with great hands
Works well in the low post and rebounds well
Unselfish smart player.

Ohhh, I kinda see it, especially their face up game.

I think CMB is the better ball handler and much better defender though. This might be my favourite comp at the moment though.
