if we stretch Beal, we're dooming ourselves for five seasons. Just leaving him as-is covers TWO seasons. I'm not a fan of his contract, but being shortsighted and stretching him is going to hurt more than help. I've said that several times and cannot emphasize it enough.

And if you really think about it - this year is almost like a lost year. Nobody expects the play-offs. So get through this year and you can either buy him out next summer like the Blazers did with Ayton or he becomes an expiring

But this free agent class is not good - there isn't a player worth stretching him for unless Mat just wants to save $80-100m in lux tax

It doesn't look like stretching him is even on the table given the cap limitations. We need to figure out a way to get further below the aprons and only then would that become available - but it's still a bad idea.

Which is why trading for Mark Williams is odd unless you have a plan? And now that teams know the Suns need to probably trade O'Neale and/or Allen - -who knows. Personally, I would have had deals done with Grayson and Royce FIRST....

Probably going to be a lot of buyouts

FROM SHAMS:

Jordan Clarkson is finalizing a contract buyout with the Utah Jazz, sources tell ESPN. Clarkson will target contending teams for his new home -- with interest from multiple playoff teams already expected

Buyout for Clarkson. This 2nd apron is killing teams. Contending teams don't want to take Clarkson with his current salary.

There could be some good bargains on the veteran market

I just hope there is not a repeat of Eubanks, Watanabe, Bates-Diop within the first 30 minutes of free agency

Be patient, let things simmer down and find your bargains. It hasn't worked signing players right away the last couple summers

Rankin has it higher - closer to 10m

Which means if Rankin is accurate; Micic, Martin and Richards would have them below the second apron...

8.9m
Richards - 5

Allen or O'neale need to net $4m

My guess it will be Royce for a TPE

Getting to the next apron level would involve somebody taking Allen for not much coming back

We don't have any FRP in 2026. After 8272727 swaps our pick will go to the Charlotte Hornets.

But we have a 2nd in 2026. The worse from the Nuggets and GSW.

Thought we traded swap rights not the pick itself because of the Stepian rule.

We could totally trade the 2026 pick after we received 3 low FRPs for our 2031 unprotected.

I never heard of the guy the Suns sent the rights too but getting a second is a good thing.

Maybe Richards will get them two more seconds -- at least one.

It looks like Suns did in fact get the 2nd round pick from the Hornets. That is easily a pick in the 31-40 range  and considering Suns traded the 28th pick... it isn't too far of a drop off (potentially).

So we have 3 2nds to use in trades.

2026 2nd
2029 2nd
2032 2nd

“There was a growing anticipation as 6 PM ET approached that Memphis is indeed poised to secure a commitment from the in-demand Ty Jerome. The ultimate price point for such a deal remains critical to the Grizzlies’ other offseason goals: Completing a renegotiation-and-extension with Jaren Jackson Jr. Jr. and maintaining sufficient flexibility to match offers to restricted free agent Santi Aldama”

Sources say Washington has continued to gauge the trade market on Marcus Smart and the recently acquired Kelly Olynyk, who became a Wizard as part of the recent deal with New Orleans headlined by Jordan Poole and CJ McCollum. – via marcstein.substack.com
