After #2, which isn't an immediate need, the Spurs need to draft exclusively players who can play the PF/C positions. Anything else is simply thumbing their nose at Wemby in terms of trying to be competitive in the coming years.
Yeah it's cloak and shadows time. So it could be misdirection. He does shoot very well. And I doubt we're done dealing to improve the team so it could be a selection for another team or for us if we're trading existing guard(s).
I get your point though if in and of itself if we pick him without addressing glaring needs. I doubt that happens. We have to balance out the roster with the slots you mentioned.
