He makes sense. Good character. Team guy. Durable. He can play SG. Cheap. He fits the profile that the Front Office uses to look for in a player.
I think the FO should be looking at one of two things.
Guys that can either hit a 3 or defend (ideally with some size)...ideally both together (but that is tough to come by with how little funds we have).
I would have to dive into Clarkson C&S potential because is raw 3 pt numbers are rough.
Clarkson on Catch and Shoots by season
24-25 37% on 3.1 attempts
23-24 33.3% on 2.9 attempts
22-23 33.9% on 4.0 attempts
21-22 31.3% on 3.9 attempts
Not great but not awful either I guess. It's encouraging that he was up to 37% this season.
Looking at his career shot chart he is at 38% from the left corner which is pretty good. Maybe the Knicks thinking he could be a corner shooter with some creation is worth it for either a portion of the MLE or minimum. Knicks desperately needed another source of shot creation. You could do worse than Clarkson given what our restraints are.
The last two seasons JC has averaged 8.2 potential assists per game, 13 drives per game and his passing % on drives has hovered around 40%. He’s also understands what a team needs from him coming off the bench. He’s not a savior for us by any means. But he should be able to establish a clearly defined role.
