If Horst and Doc can convince Ayton to come that’s huge! Nice lob threat for KPJ and someone to anchor defense behind Giannis

Ayton has such good hands and feet for a big. I feel like if the opportunity is there to bring him in cheap, you gotta take it.

Re: ATL - Portland Buying out Ayton
Does the buyout actually signal that Ayton could sign for a vet min deal? Just a genuine question I guess but if you’re bought out then you’re paid for the season to at least some substantial degree right? Obviously you take all the money you can but I’d imagine where you can earn your next contract weighs heavier than typical free agency? Is that a real thing or just a theory?
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

Did anyone else here know that if you enter the draft twice and don't sign you could be a rookie free agent? Why hasn't that happened? Go the Brandon Jennings route, play overseas for a few years, enter the draft at 20 and pick where you want to play.

If you get drafted and the team tenders you an offer, they keep your rights indefinitely unless you fully sit out a year. But yeah, more int'l guys who expect to not get drafted should enter the draft.

Teams only get their rights for a year. I’m saying that they should declare, ESPECIALLY if they expect to get drafted. Declare at 19, peace out on signing for two seasons, continue to play professionally or train or whatever, and choose where you want to play as a 21 year old.

But, why do you think teams only hold rights for a year? We've had Andrei Fetisov's rights for 31 years.

I’m just going by what the former head of the Players Union said this morning.

FWIW, the longest tenure for holding NBA rights on an international player currently belongs to the Hawks, who drafted Augusto Binelli in 1986 and still have his rights.

Re: ATL - Portland Buying out Ayton
Yeah, the rights going away after a year isn’t correct, anymore.
It used to be, like when we drafted Dr. J, and then he opted not to come over.
Could you imagine Big O, Kareem, and Dr J on the Bucks together? My god.

Sounds like Ty Jerome will be going to Memphis (good, I did not want him) and Nickel Alexander-Walker to ATL (that sucks, was hoping he would be a cheap option.)

So apparently Lakers' fans think they are getting both Ayton and Lopez...
Is that even an option?

Technically could be depending on how expensive they both are but doesn't feel like the best use of resources to me.tsamo wrote:So apparently Lakers' fans think they are getting both Ayton and Lopez...

Ah, we're getting back to this, great. Take all the picks away.

Clarkson would be a nice scoring option off the bench if he’s willing to take a vet min deal.

No thanks. He's been pretty inefficient for a long time and can't play defense. But Doc probably likes him.

I feel like his floor should be a 1 + 1 at the full MLE, but it really depends on if he has a strong preference for where he wants to land.
It also depends on the terms of his buyout. He might have pretty limited incentives to sign for more than the min.
