Personally, I've been advocating for ducking this year and next year to reset repeater status so that whatever their payroll limit from ownership in future seasons beyond gets stretched further. It's not even about saving them money, it's about allocating what they spend. Tatum is out this year and due to rust, I expect 26-27 to be the worst year left of Tatum's prime. I expect the 3 best years of his career left will be 27-28, 28-29, and 29-30. Being a regular taxpayer vs. repeat in those years means means you can fit an extra 1-2 good salaries in under whatever limit ownership has on payroll. It's just smart resource planning, IMO. I don't want to have years in Tatum's prime where we look back and wish we we had 1-2 more pieces. Resetting repeater rates IMO was a valid short term trade off for less risk of that long term.

However, a big part of that was that they were still far enough under the tax next year to go add a solid big man. I wasn't saying punt on the year or anything. Going from $31.5M under the tax still with 5 spots to fill to now $25.8M with those 5 spots to fill isn't nothing. It makes a real difference. The degree to which you trade off your quality of team in 26-27 to duck the tax now is higher.

So we'll see what this means. On the one hand, it could mean more spending this year if they don't forecast resetting the tax now because it's too much punting on next year. On the other, if they see this as part of a long term trend, it might make it critical that they reset repeater rates so they can add enough players within their payroll limits in future years.

I bet it goes up 15% the following year.

22' the luxury tax was 150mil
23' the luxury tax was 165mil
24' the luxury tax was 170mil (what was different?) :dontknow:
25' the luxury tax will be 188mil

Cap raises are capped at 10%.

Again I just want to remind people that for the last decade a lot of the lottery teams have stayed the same. Be careful what you wish for.

1000%. And I can’t imagine Tatum would be thrilled with the team pinching pennies his first year back unless there was an understanding that spending would be increased the following years.

This makes no sense, no one here has any control over what they do. THEY are trying to save money, posters are simply trying to give examples of how they can go about doing that. If money didn’t matter to the new owners no one here would care about how they can cut costs! If you think fans really don’t want to spend WHATEVER to win, I don’t know what to tell you.

What do you suggest people talk about, trades that are not only unrealistic, but never going to happen with these penny pinching new owners and the CBA? THEY want to get off money, straight from the horses mouth! Be fr fr.

I don’t know. Talk about moves. Talk about free agents. It’s not really fun listening to the equivalent of budget cut meetings. That’s just me. Maybe that’s your kink I don’t know.

Maybe. Kinda thinking Luke gets a little more, but in that ballpark.

Technically couldn’t they trade Simons and then absorb Anthony into a TPE?

I don't care out the money aspect. I care about the roster flexibility. No one is smiling for billionaires. There are realities to this salary that affect
On the court play.

gonna lose both luke & al & they gotta find younger options outside of queta. taking a flyer on someone young with untapped potential and hoping to strike gold is really the only option

Williams is an interesting prospect but Kalkbrenner almost certainly is going to be able to play NBA level basketball at the center position.

I don't think I kalkbrenner is a player. I have watched a million games with him. He isn't as good as queta and might not be as good as korner, ever. Is he better than Williams? Maybe. But I would rather have Williams on the 2 way.

I cant believe ppl are losing it from kornet leaving

Hes a backup , thats it. A team will overpay because they have cap space to give him a decent salary for 3 years . But hes not a reason celtics are winning or losing games

Houston seems to have too many forwards. Durant, Thompson, Smith jr, DFS, Eason, Whitmore. Cs should target those last two names
