Grimes for sure overplayed his hand. He had a nice close to the season last year but nobody wants to cough up $20M+ for a player who’s best stretch as a pro came on a tanking team post-ASG.

What are the odds we could get Grimes for closer to $8MM...
I think he could take the qualifying offer which is about that, but I think Morey would rather pay him around $15M. They wouldn't be able to spend the extra $7M anyway. At least now they could use that salary in a trade.

Want to lock him up for 3 years to create a potentially valuable asset.

I think 3 year $30MM might get it done.

MPJ to Brooklyn for Cam Johnson forces the Brooklyn nets to add about 15 million in salary to their books to make up the difference.

Wonder if they'll show interest in Grimes

If we look at the NAW deal as a comparison, he's still ending up with like $15m/season but it'd actually start at more like $12-13m. Assuming the usual year by year increases.

Eh, he hasn't played a hand yet to my eyes, and I'm not sure which other one you think he should've played. If he had re-signed last year with DAL he would've almost definitely gotten less than he'll get this summer, and the whole asking for $25m is just the opening move. If another team offers a bunch of money, great, if not you're at least not starting low with Philly. His agent knows we want to keep him and has some leverage there, saying 'oh we'll take $8m or whatever to get this over with' seems pretty dumb.

The difference isn't what he's truly worth - it's how many teams can sign him for more than "X" per year. As time goes on, less and less teams will have the ability to sign him which gives us more leverage.

It's funny, in years past you guys were all about waiting b/c the worst contracts are often the first deals made; now ya'll be like Morey's a bum asleep at the wheel, why won't he overspend on players rawr!

Is Giannis really sticking it out with that team? Is there a Rockets trade on the horizon...?

The chances are increasing Grimes just takes his QO and goes back to FA next year.

Is the difference this time we're trying to McScrooge on retaining two players vs splash cash on FA scraps?

Hawks trade if any. But MIL doesn't want to trade him, and I don't think Giannis wants to ask out.

Yea, at this point I think Grimes is going to take the qualifying offer. That will make him a prime trade piece for a PF.

Grimes for Tari Eason make sense to me.

Are Nuggets a threat to sign Grimes or Yabu?

NAW just got 62M for four years.

This sets the baseline for a Grimes deal.

HOU isn't doing that, though.
