I like Grimes but he’s quickly going to show that he’s just a good 6th man SG next year, I fear.

It does feel like one of Eason/Whitmore will be on the move.

Is Grimes worth more than NAW?
Naw. Hurr hurr.
But seriously no. Never was worth more than that imo

If we look at the NAW deal as a comparison, he's still ending up with like $15m/season but it'd actually start at more like $12-13m. Assuming the usual year by year increases.
The difference isn't what he's truly worth - it's how many teams can sign him for more than "X" per year. As time goes on, less and less teams will have the ability to sign him which gives us more leverage.
Well nobody said anything about what anyone's 'worth,' I was just saying a pretty hefty offer from us would still start around $12m in this year's cap sheet.
But yeah everyone gets the basic leverage calculus here, and it's good that other teams have spent on other things. But it also rarely happens that a good young player a team wants to bring back actually gets put over a barrel and forced to take a crappy contract. (That can happen more with decent players a team is totally cool letting go, leaving them to take whatever scraps are left in UFA). If the Sixers play hardball and refuse to get into that kind of reasonable $13m starting range then they're playing with fire too. Might be enough leverage to shave a million or two off but I don't think it's much more than htat.

NAW contract would be fair for Grimes. His leverage to get more is rapidly disappearing.

Lakers or Celtics might take Drummond for free? Both desperately need a Center.

Isn't Ayton still out there? Feels like he's going to be a TPMLE candidate.

Probably at some point but maybe not now. Jabari's extension makes it tough to pay Eason too, but I doubt they want to get rid of Eason right now--he's their best option at the 3 and they're trying to contend this year. DFS could play that role but why downgrade at that spot before you have to? Whitmore's also cheap depth for now, and he'll be that next year too (Eason will be entering RFA but not Cam). I bet they're listening to offers but it might be hard to find something they want more than Eason for this year, or it might just mean a pretty big price to claw him away too.

Lakers just used it on LaRavia I think.

I think that's probably right. It doesn't work for the Sixers to offer him more, and his market seems like it's about that. And if the Sixers offer much less it's not unreasonable to take the QO. Which his agent knows the Sixers really don't want to be the outcome here.

I really wish there was a way to pry Eason from Houston. I feel like he’d be the perfect player at the 4 for us.
always a jump shot away.

They’ll have to trade him by next offseason. They won’t do it this year as they need the cheap depth to make a run.

Makes sense. I think I’d trade that Clippers pick top-3 protected if it came down to it. I think he fits that well.
always a jump shot away.

its less about not doing quick moves but you see other teams get out of bad deal and make steals by being active...Morey's entire tenure has been him waiting for one move to happen and then just picking at scraps afterwards or nothing at all.
The Nuggets got off the MPJ contract for a better player, SAVED MONEY, and added to their depth. Thats the **** good FO do. I didn't even think they had any moves to make but they did. A Good FO makes moves that you don't even think about....we have telegraphed all of our moves since Morey has been here imo (trade for Harden, then sign PG).
Another year of hoping for injury luck again is just not that appealing. NOW the real answer is that we probably should blow it up and at the very least I am glad he isn't trading McCain for some washed vet so it always could be worse but like Nurse, we were promised this genius analytical mind that is ahead of the curve...and welp.

A trade where we give up Paul George + assets for Lebron makes some sense. Allows us to pivot in 1-2 years if it doesn't go well. Not sure Lebron would accept a trade here though.
Also, think there is a decent chance Giannis gets traded. Might be an optics move where he pretends to give the Bucks one offseason to build a contender and then doesn't look so bad for asking out. Why does Houston have three centers? Might be preparing to move Sengun in a Giannis deal.

I get your point but the nuggets gave up an unprotected future first to do that, and it was overwhelmingly a cost cutting move.
Also not sure what’d indicate that Morey and crew isn’t aware of or thinking about other possibilities just because he’s obsessed with the big star moves. He’s always good at margin moves and creative solutions. Those things just haven’t mattered much with the star things flopping.

I'd hardly consider the Nuggets a good FO. They made some pretty bad moves the last two years to take them out of contention.
