Re: Pistons related Free Agency Thread
If we aren't going to resign THJ and we aren't going to care about being able to offer Beasley $7.2 million at some point down the road then I think we're still in a position where it makes sense to operate as a below the cap team and waive/renounce Beasley + THJ.
That also allows us to have access to the BAE next summer.
NBA Salary cap is $154.65 million
10 Guys Already under contract @ $135.2 million
This leaves us with $19.45 million
LeVert gets 2 years ($14.1 starting)
BBall Paul gets 2 years ($5.35 starting)
We'd still have the Room Exception ($8.78 million starting out) to spend on someone else.
It just so happens to work out that the BAE and the MLE add up to almost exactly the same amount as the cap space we can create by renouncing Schroeder, THJ & Beasley.

Monks a good player. But bringing in $35M worth of shooting guards (and drafting one) seems like an overreaction to losing Beasley and THJ. I think forward and backup PG are still much bigger needs at this point.

Re: Pistons related Free Agency Thread
Monk is a hot head and makes too much money.... if we would have used our FA money on a big man like Al Horford, Brook Lopez, Aldama, etc then we'd have a need for Monk but I have a hard time seeing Monk fit when we also just got LeVert. There's only so much ball to go around.
Monk also going to take away a lot of shots from some of the younger guys. He isn't efficient enough or good enough of a defender to take him at that high salary.

Re: Pistons related Free Agency Thread
Monk doesn't strike me as a particularly good fit with our team.
I get that our venues to add talent are limited but he overlaps a lot with what we already have.
I dunno- if I'm totally off base here someone can correct me. I'll openly admit I haven't watched many Kings games and am mostly going off of rep and stats. Seems like a streaky shooter who can do some playmaking but you don't want being the primary playmaker. We've already got Ivey.

Not sure if you're joking or what you mean by that, but Ausar running the point in any scenario seems like a nightmare. He has some playmaking ability, but he also just freezes up at times with terrible decision making and turnovers. He has zero swagger/confidence at times it seems. If you think Cade makes bonehead decisions when pressured, wait until you see what teams do to Ausar and watch him fold like a table.
And assuming Ivey is okay with it, I'd like Anthony as well. I don't think he's as bad as people say here, but the PG position is slim pickings at this point. It could also be another trash to treasure scenario like Schroeder was. At this point we need an upgrade to Sasser.

Monk and Stew coming off the bench would be true Piston basketball! I'm all for it!
I'm still putting out hope we sign Beasley and this investigation goes down the drain

Detroit still an unwanted destination I guess. It's a shame after last season. Had to overpay for Tobias and Levert and there's a lot of sweetheart deals going around it seems. Tyus Jones at $7M or Trent at $3.5M would've been much more preferable than the deals we've made so far IMO.

Our backup PG is Ivey. Did most of yall watch all of our games last season????
Cade and Ivey staggered the point position.

If they get Monk, it's possible. Without him, no. Ivey will spend more time at SG than PG, just like he did last season. It's also a dangerous game to play with Ivey by management unless they truly decide to move on from him.

Admittedly I’ve lost touch with the inner workings of the apron and all that.
But it used to not be about “Malik Monk” and more about losing the access to add talented.
The Warriors were able to get Andrew Wiggins by taking DeAngelo Russell in when Kevin Durant left.

The reality is the Pistons growth will come from within and through the draft. You rarely find difference makers via free agency or trade. The nba is setup for young talent to stay with there drafted team. The team will be better this season. Just keep bringing in the right guys

A dangerous game? I'm lost, he ran the 2 and 1 all last season until he got injured. Our offense ran fine when he was running point. We actually had more ball movement with him at the 1(my opinion).

Dangerous game meaning he's due for an extension and I'm sure he wants to start. He frustratingly had to split time with Killian Hayes to start his career, played 30 games last season as a starter and now you want to send him back to the bench? Even if that's the right call for the Pistons, I'm sure in a contract year and with what he's been through, that wouldn't sit too well with Ivey's camp. So if you're willing to make that decision, you need to be aware of the consequences.

Who said anything about Ivey coming off the bench?

Re: Pistons related Free Agency Thread
Woke up (Live is Australia) hoping to see we had signed Aldama only to see we’ve signed Levert and maybe getting Monk in a S&T for Schroeder.
Can only presume there wasn’t any better deals out there and looking at our targets I think there’s a clearer pathway for NAW to play bigger minutes in Atlanta then what he’d get here, makes more sense for him from a player perspective. Don’t love the Levert signing but it’s only a 2 year deal and I think based on what we’ve seen, TL wants to see what our young guys have next year and then try make a move next year for a serious upgrade hauling contracts like Leverts. I also think if Beasley gets cleared he’ll just come back here on a small one year deal, which if that happens I think we would have great depth. Just really lacking a power forward

Brooklyn traded Cam Johnson to Denver for a first-round pick and Michael Porter Jr.
If we didn't have to match MPJ's salary, I wouldn't mind trading with the Nets for a protected first-round pick, or two or three second-round picks. That way, they'd get multiple rounds for Cam, which is what they initially wanted. And MPJ fits like a glove in Detroit.

I think the Pacers and Thunder both show that you can’t have enough guards who can defend, handle and shoot (in that order).
