It’s easier to soft tank without starting quality bigs. I don’t mind Queta, Garza, Williams getting some run….the offseason isn’t over yet though.

Assuming Horford comes back that’s only two bigs on the roster
Queta, Garza, Williams, Tillman
If that is our frontcourt, forget about it.

They suck at center right now, but next year they have payroll flexibility to make a real addition there and they have all their future picks except for one to use in trades or pick players.
Tatum’s injury coupled with the tough-to-move expiring salary filler they had to take on in their 2nd apron reset make for a tougher situation this year, but eyes on the prize… still like where this team is at long term.
The challenge I see is if they get under the tax this summer (or season, if it takes until Feb to move Simons), which I presume they are trying to do: how do you get that center next summer?
My thoughts usually come back to trade Jaylen. JJJ, Sabonis, Bam — but that’s the list.
Getting the modern Will Purdue is one answer — but I think he just booked a flight for San Antonio.

He doesn't have much competition with Queta, so if he's any good, the playing time will be available.

Like holy hell what kinda expectaions did you guys have for this offseason?
Some of us where getting ready for this for 2 seasons. Everyone damn knew that we had 2-3 season to win and then there will be hell with roster and salary cap.
It came faster with JT's injury and made it even worse.

EXPLORING A BIGGER DEAL?
The odds remain strongly in favor of the Celtics keeping their core talent in place (Jaylen Brown, Derrick White). However, if Boston ends up losing Horford, Kornet, Holiday and Porzingis all for minimal or no compensation, it will be intriguing to see if more suitors take a run at Brown or White in the coming days and weeks. The Celtics will undoubtedly keep their asking price extremely high for either player but building around the trio just got tougher for the future with all the departures this offseason.
B Robb says in another Tweet, that Denver with their MLE could be a destination for Horford. That actually makes some sense.

A lot of ways.
1) They have a 22 million dollar TPE generated by trading KP. They could use that to absorb the salary of a player like Ivica Zubac, Isaiah Stewart, Wendell Carter, Jakob Poetl with picks in exchange.
2) They could use Hauser and or Pritchard as a salary matching contracts along with picks.
3) They could S&T Simons and bring back a center in return.
4) If they let Simons walk, they would probably have access to the full MLE and be able to offer about 4/64 for a free agent center.
Or they could do various combinations of those things. They don't NEED a center as good as JJJ or Bam, and they probably can't get one. But there are a lot of ways to get an above average starting big next offseason if tey are willing to pay for one. They COULD get one this offseason, its just that they may not because they are trying to shed money in a year Tatum is out.

Drafted 15th and 21st in a year the Cs had the 30th pick.
Remember when the Celtics passed on Wemby to pick Jordan Walsh

See, the Blazers could live with Ayton missing shots or his man scoring on him. They could even live with him being limited by injuries to 55 and 40 games in his two seasons in Portland. But in the end, they couldn’t live with his bad ways. The tardiness to team flights and practices, according to a team source. The skipping of rehabilitation appointments. Fans saw him slam chairs when he was taken out of games. And a team source said there were tantrums in the locker room when he was sidelined for poor effort. – via New York Times

Makes no sense to get mad at a minimum contract guy, but Garza is not an NBA player. Like someone said, Enes Kanter archetype. Horrible defender, can score, never passes the ball. He's 31% from 3p range so he won't space the floor. Minny wasn't gonna bring him back yet C's gave him a 2nd year guaranteed.
With Horford most likely heading West, C's have lost 5 out of their 8 players that were high level impact players. Simons, Niang and Garza are all below replacement level impact-wise. They are White or Pritchard injury away from being bottom 5 team in the East. Maybe not the worst scenario to get a lotto pick in a gap year.

I have been over the moon with the work Brad has been doing. An absolute masterclass.
I say this the morning of July 1 and Derrick White and Pritchard are still on the roster.

Feels like there’s been twenty versions of this article the past two months.
Once someone caves and meets Brad’s price one of those guys is gone and he’s looking at you Houston.

It’s still early. But some of you who were getting ready for this two seasons ago wanted to tank two seasons ago. They aren’t winning the title this year, however, bringing a tanking culture to Boston isn’t good at all. I’m also not sure Mazzula is a good enough coach to keep it from happening.
But on the other hand we get to talk about prospects, potential and ceilings again.

Garza hasn't had the NBA minutes to judge 3 pt shooting. Shot 43% during his last G League year.

Re: Holy Offseason I Can’t Believe it’s July FA/Trade Thread
You also run into the danger of player entitlement really seeping into this locker room if they tank, especially without Jrue and Big Al. With that comes drama and the inevitability that your stars will ask out to go to a better situation which doesn’t always mean a better team but go to a better market. At least put something together that’s semi competitive for the next couple years so we don’t see Tatum suiting up in Purple in Gold on opening night in 2029.
