I actually like it for both teams. Cam > MPJ, plus it gives Denver more flexibility.

On the other hand, I understand that the Nets bite when a 2032 unprotected first is involved. That pick has huge upside.

Nuggets will need to find away to improve defensive rebounding since they were bad at it and MPJ was solid on the boards.
I hope Johnson can improve his shape and stay healthy. If he does that its a win for Denver.

I don’t think it is downgrade in talent all.

Because it isn't.
As talented and gifted Porter as shooter and scorer is, he is as dumb and useless on defense. Guy has some of worst help defense instincts in nba history.
Every time when he has to make quick decision about helping or staying put, he makes wrong decision, it's actually incredible to watch, for all the wrong reasons.

His defensive stand is all wrong, his anticipation is wrong, he can't read offense.

And he isn't even THAT good of offensive player in playoffs, during entire Nuggets championship run, his stats were mediocre at best. 13 ppg on 54% TS for player that sucks life out of defense. His passing game also never evolved into anything more than passing ball to first man next to him.

Fact that Nuggets got Cam and in same time shed near $20M off books is crazy. Pick will probably hurt in long run, but now they at least have wing defense from both wing spots, not just Gordon and BBQ chicken.

Nets will pair MP jr and Cam Thomas. Dude. Diabolical. There will legit be Nets games where those two combine for 60 shots and 2 assists. :rocking:

We hear this all the time, trading players for so-called flexibility but it's just a cheap move if team chooses to not use it. Let see if they make more moves such as buy out Saric and get a real backup 5, otherwise it's just a salary dump to save the Kroenkes tax.

On the other hand, I understand that the Nets bite when a 2032 unprotected first is involved. That pick has huge upside.

It's definitely risky but it's 7 years from now, and I believe they still have 4 of their own 1st for the next 5 or 6 years (too lazy to look up). They have win-now players in Jokic/Murray/Gordon, they can always replenish when they exit the Jokić era.

Cam Johnson is worst shooter(good one but worse), worse rebounder, and just a bit better defender. He is also more injured then MPJ. MPJ was healthiest Nugget outside of Jokic in last 3 seasons.

Porter is a better rebounder, but other than that I think Cam’s better at every single skill there is on a basketball court. Better scorer, better passer, better defender. Probably gonna even look like a better shooter with Jokic throwing him passes.

He wasnt in the spotlight since his Suns days. People will realise that he is not that versitile of a player next season. Shooting is his best skill and MPJ is better then him at that.
Dont get me wrong, i still see this as a win for the Nuggets since they gained a lot of flexibility, but lets not pretend this is upgrade in talent.

Nets have money to spend, they want that unprotected first. 7 years after Jokic who is in his prime now....

Jokic is gonna age better than LeBron who’s 40 yrs old now and putting up very good numbers.

Nope, Jokic doesn’t need to be working out 24/7 like Bron to still be extremely effective in this league. Same thing with Luka. Their build different, you’re right.

Porter’s played 22 games with Jokic in his career. In those games, he’s shot 26.8% from three. Cam Johnson’s a career 39.2% 3-point shooter. He’s super smart too and moves the ball much better than Porter. I’m super excited to see what he does next to Joker. I think he’s about to have a career year. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him make the all-star team.

ALL about that unprotected 1st 7 years out.

I guarantee that the Nets GM, coach, etc will not be there 7 years from now. MPJ is overpaid and does nothing for them.

nobody will care to call you out in 7 years.
moreover, much earlier than that such pick will become a super valuable trade asset

I'm not sure it'll be that much of a downgrade, he's a great fit with Joker...MPJ has also had the luxury of playing with Jokic his whole career, he makes everyone look better, id expect him to look worse on BKN. Now Cam has never played with someone like that (CP was far passed his prime). I'd expect him to look much better on DEN. Plus whomever they sign with that money is like adding to the trade return

I'm good with DEN giving up that pick. They desperately needed to make changes/upgrades before the window closes, they owe it to Jokic. Adding some depth is also huge

But Nets will be there. It is admirable when gms do moves like these, because it trully is pro Nets move, rather than pro gm move.

Their % are pretty much the same, but there's a huge difference - Cam Johnson never played with Jokic, who ensures open looks to his teammates. Remember those two huge open threes MPJ had in, I think, game 4 against Thunder? I do.

Perception of Porter Jr. as good or even great player is wild to me.

Basically a wash trade

Cam Johnson has significantly less injury risk IMO, and is slightly more reliable on defense. Porter is more capable of handling the ball and creating his own shot.

not so sure about that

Giving away a completely unprotected first rounder when your star player is long gone is crazy to me.

Jokic will be 36, I think. In no way does that mean long gone.
