I feel like Houston would have been better off giving this contract to Ty Jerome (who signed for somewhat less). He'd fill a need while DFS is just a luxury extra.

Weird that LA wouldn’t pay that after all the talk of bringing DFS in being about Luka.

Really solid for Houston. They will find minutes for him.

PO and trade kicker..
Rockets really wanted it.

I actually wonder if Rockets are going to trade Tari Eason now. Seemed like they were desperate for a player they already have.

To me this reads like the final year is both a player option and team option. So either side can opt out if they want. It's got to be a mutually agreed decision to activate the 4th year. So it shakes out as a 3 + 1 deal at around 13m per year. That's pretty good imo.

If last year is indeed non-guaranteed, that's a fireable offense.
I was listening to former Lakers beat writer, he declined to comment on the injury gossip, but he did confirm that Lakers offer was a low-ball offer, if it's lower than 40/3 guaranteed, that's really terrible.

yeah, DFS on one year at like $13-14M is easily dumpable in two years when they apparently want to make their FA splash. Seems he just wasn't valued by them or he would rather be in Houston

Apparently only two years are guaranteed??? That's a crazy team friendly contract and I'm kinda shocked he couldn't get significantly more guaranteed elsewhere???

Let's wait and see, I don't buy it, Smitty will clarify things soon.

Yeah.Thats a really good deal for Houston. Even if its mostly guaranteed on the third year..

2yr34 type would’ve been a better deal for him and easily dumped if LAL actually was able to do something with cap space next summer..

Really don’t like being conservative (polite?) for a year of Luka’s prime and maybe LBJ’s last season..

Weren't there rumblings in Dallas that Luka and DFS didn't get along when DFS got moved for Kyrie?

No, there was none of it, they are very good freinds.

A 32 year old role player who isn't very good. Let's say he performs to his contract for 2 years. Will the Rockets even guarantee his 3rd year when he's 34? Probably not. The Rockets can afford to overpay for DFS because their cap sheet is relatively clean but, in a vacuum without cap considerations, the Rockets will do well to come out even.

WHere did you hear that jbk? As Mavrelous said, all signs point to them being super close

I thought I read something when DFS was included in the Kyrie trade.

Is the consensus that DFS is not a good role player? For 12.5 mill, or slightly less than 8% of the cap?

I figure on a 3 year, especially a 2 year, that the contract is easily trade-able for positive value (2 2nds ish).

Don’t think DFS wanted to be in LA for the same money.

Might just like Texas better.

Lakers couldn’t front load him an offer without getting rid of some dead weight.

In 2024, 31 year old DFS plus huge salary savings/getting under the 2nd apron was worth 3 future seconds. We'll have to wait and see if a 34 year old DFS can bring back 2 seconds.

Yeah, can’t know what he actually wanted you are right.

But I think DFS is worth the seconds it would’ve cost to dump Maxi or Vincent (or whoever) if the team wasn’t willing to spend to keep them all for a year.

That was half a season of DFS, locked into sub starter money that you can opt out of at any point DFS has different value.

Great deal for the Rockets. Lakers really should have tried to do something more creative even if it was doing a sign and trade. Ayton walking in for free makes up for the mismanagement here, but just poor job.
