What should have happened was trade jrue amd KP for some value instead of what they did.
And trade brown.
Embrace a 1 year tank and retool with rookies, tatum, white, pritchard and capspace
I'm not saying that what you suggest wasn't a viable plan to discuss, but I think you're taking a MASSIVE leap of faith to assume that the value you got for KP/Jrue/Brown would be substantial enough that it's only a one year "tank".

Cant see why it wouldnt.
Youth gets to play, have tonassume at leaset 1 pritchard level breakout if ita 5 guys.
You have lots of capspace if done correctly to add an allstar level player in offseason
You get a top draft pick who, in the next draft, is a franchise guy

I'll take Larry Nance Jr to shore up our big man position if we lose Al. Plus his agent being Mark Bartelstein should help.

I’d be over the moon for Lance but surely he must have better options?

Possibly but hopefully we can offer more playing time than other destinations.

Fair.
I thought contenders would be lining up for him but this new CBA is really suppressing salaries.

Now the West is another matter entirely. They aren’t in the league of OKC Houston Denver Minnesota anymore.

hugepatsfan wrote:The problem is that with Tatum out, they'll need to play Hauser at the 4 and that makes it look ugly because he's not really a 4. So you feel terrible about that position now. And taking him out of the wing spot means
IMO the 4 position has evolved. At this point you either have a double big lineup (2 guys who can play the 5) or you play a wing at the 4.
The old school "power forward" is basically dead at this point. Like, if Karl Malone, Kevin Garnet, Tum Duncan, Carlos Boozer, Zach Randolph, Dirk, Amare Stoudemire and Kevin McHale were in the league today, they'd play the 5. Or they'd play the 4 in a double big lineup.
Teams these days often play smaller, quicker, more skilled lineups..with just 1 5-man on the floor (who may be a small ball 5) and a wing at the 4. Like the Knicks for example with Towns at the 5 and OG or Josh Hart at the 4. OG and Hart are really both wings.
Hauser is a wing but he's a wing with good size. In the modern NBA, that's the description of a guy who can play the 4 at times. And JB has also played the 4 at times, like in the bubble when he matched up well vs Siakam. And we have Niang at the 4..and we can also run double big lineups as well.
Hell, you could even argue that Hauser isn't quick enough or skilled enough with the ball in his hands to play the 3 so is more of a 4. But on the flip side, his interior defense, size, rebounding and rim protection isn't really good enough to play the 4. He is kind of a tweener which is why he's a bench player and not a starter.
hugepatsfan wrote:I don't think they're "tanking" in a dramatic sense of the word. This team just has some holes on it (also some good players too!) but the value of holding onto our future draft picks for when Tatum is back simply outweighs pouring them into the team while he's out. So you live with those inadequacies for a year.
Agreed
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

There's 3 franchise guys in the next draft (AJ, Boozer, Peterson). And we're likely making the playoffs next year so we're likely not getting 1 of them.
Even if we miss the playoffs, odds of getting lucky enough in the lottery to land a top 3 pick are very low. For context, the Hawks lost in the play in this year, so they were in the lottery but they had just a 2.4% chance of getting a top 3 pick..

Re: Holy Offseason I Can’t Believe it’s July FA/Trade Thread
I definitely feel like the odd-man out in this forum, because Personally, I'm kind of looking of looking forward to this upcoming season. No, I don't think the C's are going to go very far, but I'm excited to see what the young guys are going to do. Sometimes a pressure-free season can be a lot of fun to watch. Also, unlike so many teams that are having to start from scratch when they have a foreseeably bad season, Boston has two top guys coming back in full strength the next season. So this year's team (no matter how good or bad they are) will really only last one year before we can once again put up really high expectations for the team.
I really don't care how many games the C's win this year, but I do hope it's a great chance for some of the guys to come into their own. I figure this year will show the team who they want to keep to play along side the Jays in 2026-2027, or who they need to trade to look for other talent.
So, as far as I'm concerned - bring it on!!!! Let's see what we've got, and how much fun we can have cheering these guys on!!!

In order to get AJ, you would have to trade both JB and White to get a top 3 pick. In what world would JT and a rookie AJ be a contender?
Additionally, JT isn't waiting around to have a rebuild around him. You have a far more likely chance to win with a healthy JT, JB, White, Pritchard and filler for a few years than you do with JT and a top 3 pick and few 2nd-3rd year guys.
If you trade JB, you aren't getting nearly anyone as good in return for the next 4 yrs minimum...

Amd if tatum is 100% healthy then so.is elbiid.
And a healthy embiid, george, maxey and their draft pick is better than boston.
Stop being a homer and accept FACT

So now we're turning on the sliders and making every team 100% healthy for your argument to work?
Also, LOL at thinking the Bucks have a solid supporting cast. Not to mention Lame Time is 35 and coming off a torn achilles and has shown the past 2 yrs in MIL he's heavily declining...

Tillman, Walsh, and JD works for a Drummond trade.
What's the point with Drummond? Minutes away from Queta and Williams. Garza might be useful in future years.
And a waste to give JD away like that.

Yeah
If we are counting on Tatum being 100% pre injury then we have to assume the same for everyone else.
Or is only a celtic capable of healing completely?
Is that the "marker" we are using?
Also dame. He can still shoot and score. And playing off Giannis that is all they need. Shooters.

This is your only warning. Knock it off. If you don't like someone's opinion, respond respectfully or not at all. Simple. Can

Payton is gonna be a beast.

Let's go!
