I just don't get it. Why would you burn a roster spot like this?

Maddening

Their first roster move was trading for Josh Green.

They also burnt two top-6 picks on Tidjane Salaun and the slowest guard in the draft, Kon Knueppel.

I’m way past ‘questioning’ it.

All this hand-wringing and vitriol about the Plumlee signing is just out of whack.

Let's be clear - Mason Plumlee is a deep bench center. He was not signed to play major minutes nor add significantly to the win column. In the grand scheme, Plumlee is worth no more than a shrug or minor comment on a message board. He takes that route spot because someone has to, and at vet minimum. If he plays it'll be because of injury.

All Hornets fans want a win-now move, or at least a ray of hope that the Hornets are as tired of losing as we are. And we're frustrated that the franchise didn't move proactively to address the ever-needy center position. That may yet come. Personally, I'm not counting on it. Peterson remains in asset acquisition mode.

Yet here we are, grinding our teeth. Over Mason Plumlee.

Some may say, "It's not Mason we're angry over, it's what he represents - a step back, a loser's gambit." I can buy that. The hope we had at the Collin Sexton trade faded quickly when Plumlee was signed. Peterson went from shrewd to idiotic in the span of a few hours. It's the beauty of relatively anonymous internet message boards that allow fans to have mostly safe reactions to things they care deeply about.

But the extreme level of this emotional whiplash to the Plumlee signing is simply out of whack.

The only other centers on the roster are Diabate and a 2nd round pick from this year. He could legitimately end up starting.

we went through about twice as many centers last year as we have on the roster rn and Taj Gibson still started 11 games lol

Plumdog will absolutely be starting games this season.

I have to take this decision as an endorsement of Kalkbrenner, which I find very surprising. I know he's a 4 (5?) year college guy and seems to have solid defensive credentials, but I absolutely would not have thought they would plan to take a guy in the 2nd round that they would need in the rotation.

With that said, I also don't think they traded Mark and Nurk with a thought that 35 year old Mason was going to take their place in the rotation.

A headscratcher for sure.

Well hopefully the ones we have now won't miss like 60% of their games, for me that's the silver lining of not having to rely on Mark Williams being an important part of our rotation.

But yeah we're definitely just one injury away from Plumlee needing to play.

Not always, but sometimes when we're left scratching heads it means something fell through.

Yep, totally possible. Also possible that there are planned moves left to be revealed.

What I find most surprising is that I don't think the FO or coaching staff showed they want Diabate to be a starter. He played behind all of Mark, Nick, and Nurk last year.

Feels to me that they are just extending their search for a starting C because they weren't happy with where they sat on initial FA center options or they have something else they're targeting.

It seems very unrealistic that this is where we are headed, but I do find it pretty surprising that Myles Turner is unrestricted and we didn't hear any word about his interest in resigning with IND.

WOW

I have to believe we wanted him here. MIL has to do a S&T, which makes sense as something we were targeting.

Turner would have been nice here, but remember, Jeffie is a skin flint. He’s a cheap date, so no spending those excess picks now…

Step 1 would be getting Turner to want to come here. MIL has (had?) a pretty compelling value prop.

Indy is going to be pretty bad next year. Crazy how much talent they lost from that Finals team.

Surely hes gotta be a taj vet signing who is here just incase. We need to make a move on claxton we can make Brooklyn as bad as they want to be with green and 2 1sts.

even as backup Plumlee doesn't upset me, it only would annoy me if they signed him as the answer to start.

Okogie + Connaughton expirings + Salaün also works. I know it means Green stays, but he may be alright on the bench if Mann/Konn is moving the ball and creating shots for him, Grant, and Moussa. Two more years then maybe Liam McNeeley is his cheap replacement on the bench.

If the Nets hold out for Salaün, it would be hard for Peterson to abandon ship like that. And I think the Nets can get a team to bid 3 firsts on Claxton because he's been a defensive player of the year candidate. When I watch him defend I am amazed how he can stick with fast guards trying to get into the paint. He defends like Moussa out there.

He's definitely starting 35 games. It is inevitable.
