Re: Just brilliant team building
Normally I'm a fan of running it back and building chemistry. However, this team is still poorly constructed and unbalanced, even with the recent success. The success to me have been in spite of it all.
Does this team actually help bring out the best in our "star"? Granted, as a star it's his job to overcome and be better but it's the front office's job to make it as easy as possible for him to do that. This roster doesn't do that. More specifically, the starting lineup. There's 3-4 inconsistent or non-shooters with him and we've added nothing to help that.
Are we really confident this team can take another step next year or is it just a gap year?

I would t say gap year per se, because that’s not a standard word I. This context.
But I will say that you can’t be as confident with Dilly, TSJ and Clark as you were with Conley and NAW.
It takes new guys a couple years to find their stride. Maybe we will be surprised.

Re: Just brilliant team building
How many guys can realistically get minutes in NBA rotation?
First five:
Gobert
Randle
McDaniels
Edwards
DDV
Second unit:
Reid
TJ
Clark
Dillingham
Conley
It is already 10 players. Third unit:
Ingles
Miller
Beringer
???
Zikarsky
???

Feels like a gap year. Need PG upgrade and a C that fits the modern game versus one that can't even catch. And you already mentioned the need for shooters. As it stands now, they are bringing back the team that got smoked in the playoffs, but with one of their top rotation guys gone.

Re: Just brilliant team building
We will certainly feel the void left by NAW. Defensively he almost made it so we didn't feel Mcdaniels absence whenever he sat and rested.
Handled most POA defense extremely well, and was super fluid around screens. Decent to good corner shooter in regular season (less so in playoffs, streaky). Lefty layup package was good on drives. OK at times spot up minutes as PG etc.
Clark will handle the defensive part, and corner 3s. But in overall NAW will be missed. Was also high character guy popular with teammates.
And why the hell haven't we signed a backup PG yet. With NAW gone, it's super risky to rely only on old Mike and super raw young Rob. Needs to a go between safety.
And no Donte isn't that at all for PG.

I'm not sure I would have considered NAW a point guard either.

Re: Just brilliant team building
He isnt, but played the most spot minutes as Conley backup in key matchups. He couldn't playmake or handle the ball much, more just keep it moving as placeholder PG.
But he seemed more useful in those spot minutes there than when we tried Donte. Who's on court value got tanked as soon as you asked him to do some ball handling PG duties.

They drafted a point guard last year!

People that are complaining about Finch not playing the young guys last year are the same ones who want to sign a 3rd string point guard to take minutes away from the young guys

And he will be used? I want another backup PG for insurance, if Finch still feels Rob can't play non garbage minutes, and Conley is still getting choked out by father time.

I think if Finch felt like Rob couldn't play they would of got a point guard by now

Re: Just brilliant team building
I hope so, but I will remain skeptical until I see it consistently.
And Rob must take his chances, he really didn't in that small period where Donte and Mike were down same time, and he get regular minutes few games in a row. It looked exciting in spurts, but it was the opposite of winning impact. Showed why he getting so little minutes.
Lets hope he really blooms out this coming season. Our entire teams future is riding on him panning out.

Re: Just brilliant team building
I do NOT want to see DDV at pg at all. It's not his strength and could be part of the reason he had an up and down season. Attacking off the closeout is fine but bringing it up and initiating, no thanks. We do need another vet pg as insurance but they've got to play the younger guys. I'd rather see them take their lumps during season as opposed to the playoffs (should've been done last season).

That's what people thought two summers ago too.

How many 19 year old point guards in NBA history were good? I don't think it's fair to expect a 19 year old to be good on a team with high expectations

Not so confident with our head coach tbh and because teams that finished ahead of wolves in west standings like Houston and Denver got a lot better this off season. I still want the wolves to trade one of Rudy/Randle/Naz because wolves have too much money tied to PF/center and DDV to get the most value out of his contract.

Did other teams get better for 2025-26? Probably. Will those teams still be better from 2026-30? Not necessarily.

In 2027-28, the $61,015,192 player option owed to Karl-Anthony Towns is more than the combined $60,802,469 that is estimated to be owed to both Julius Randle AND Naz Reid that same season.

Do you see Randle and Naz as more than equal to KAT?
