Bucks are damned if they do, damned if they don’t it seems. I’m not a fan of Deandre Ayton at all but he’s leagues better than anyone else they could get for the MLE.

This would be a worthwhile gamble for the Bucks. They desperately need to upgrade their talent and just lost their starting center. Ayton was a serviceable player for a finals team once, it’s possible in a winning environment he could become that guy again.

Never mind they just got Myles Turner!

Ayton was disgruntled in Phoenix (winning environment), and disgruntled again in Portland (not so winning environment). That's 2-for-2. At both places, he was also such a negative that his teams eventually dumped him at a loss. This does not bode well for the Bucks and/or Giannis.

Exactly. Both teams considered it addition by subtraction.
Even after all the brand new start talk in Portland Ayton went back to his loser habits. This is not a guy Giannis will tolerate. Either good habits finally rub off on Ayton from LBJ or Giannis or this guy will be one of the biggest get in the way of your own success stories.

Alright then maybe the Pacers take a flyer on Ayton, lol. Wouldn’t be the first time.

If this all results in a mini-tank year for Indiana I’m fine with that, give Mathurin and Walker a ton of burn and get a decent pick out of it. And now the money to resign Mathurin suddenly exists.

I dont see Ayton to IND. I think they just play the kids and maybe sign a cheap guy. Might as well develop and go for the higher pick with Hali out and Myles gone.

Ayton on a two year MLE still makes sense in this scenario I think. A decent reclamation project Pacers have done extremely well with those.

The Pacers are the ones who offered Ayton his big contract in the first place, when he was a restricted free agent. Obviously they liked him, and obviously he was willing to play in Indy.

Now with Turner leaving, maybe they finally fulfill the old connection and bring Ayton in to Indy. Who knows, maybe he'll finally turn things around. Third team's the charm???

I think its because he is still legally under contract and has yet to clear waivers unlike FA's who are free to talk prior to the signing period which begins in July 7.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. KP tried to get Ayton when he was with the Suns, so they've long liked him... that said, I think part of their reasons for long wanting to move on from Turner was partly his attitude and work ethic. Even as good as they can be with reclamation projects, not sure how much they want a second run at that... I also wonder about their priorities as a team right now - I wonder if the Pacers are looking to do a gap-year with the Hali injury much like Boston with the Tatum ACL. In that respect, a few knocks against getting Ayton.

Ayton also has an the same agent with Luka, so there's going to be some agency preference at work for Ayton to get to the Lakers... but I'm not counting Indy out as his landing spot.

Yup, same reason the Holiday trade hasn't been officially confirmed yet for Portland. Needs to wait until July 7th.

Ayton is one of the laziest, lowest Iq and carefree players. No hunger, no drive. He's the antethesis of the type of player Carlisle and Pacers have been getting to form the team they have now. I'd be shocked if Pacers go for him

Yeah, things have only looked worse for Ayton since he signed that offer sheet. But desperate teams do desperate things.

I wouldnt be. This is a lost season for the Pacers without Hali and Turner...a cheap low risk talented but immature reclamation project is far from the worst move they can make.

Clarkson got waived and they've already announced he's signing with the Knicks. So I don't think the whole clearing waivers thing matters. He's probably still deciding

Ayton was waived on Sunday. He's completely free to talk to teams.
