Damian Lillard Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Tue Jul 1, 2025 4:16 pm

Yes, the trade did not work out as we hoped, and the end of his tenure here was disappointing. But he also gave us a taste of Dame Time and carried himself like a professional.

Hopefully he recovers fully from the achilles and continues his career.

In any event, thank you Dame.

He came in and tried. Better in theory than in practice. It happens. Sucks we unloaded a ton of assets for it and still owe him $22m for the next 5 years but that's the business of taking big risks. I'll always remember the day I heard we traded for him, the optimism was extreme.

I liked the person a lot more than the player, who was maddening here. Wish him good luck in his recovery.

He has to be the most exciting trade acquisition we've ever had, no? I had dreamed of a Dame-Giannis pairing for years prior to that move and could not **** believe we made it happen.

Unfortunately, it just wasn't the right fit. Dame had lost a step and was a sieve defensively.

It sucks it didn't work out. Get well soon.

Sidenote: I know it won't happen but could the Bucks resign Lillard next year?

One of the great who didn't have as many of those moments in his career here. Despite the general feelings of malaise around him from some here, I think he worked hard and just didn't have the same "oomph" he had 10 years ago. He also came back unprecedentedly fast from an injury for the playoffs and gutted it out until sustaining a worse one, so no one should really question his dedication or heart. Wish him well.

We did win a trophy with him. Sucks it didn't work out, but it is what it is.

Am I an a-hole for thinking Dame doesn't need/deserve an appreciation thread?

I can go either way on it. But let's keep this an appreciation thread. No need to crap on him now.

What can you say? Just unfortunate. The fit was tough in the regular season but in 11 playoff games we got to see him and Giannis together in 3 of them. We got a glimpse of some Dame Time in the 2024 playoffs against IND but a shame we never got really get a glimpse of this pairing in the postseason.

I hated him as a player here, but no ill feelings and wish him the best. Neither him or Giannis adapted to each other's games and seemed to work separately (never understood why our best shot at the end of the game was dame time from 30+ feet). But he tried hard and wanted to win.

Dame seems like a good dude. It sucks that the on paper fit never materialized but you can't win em all. I hope his rehab goes well and he's able to end his career somewhere on a positive note.

I liked the time where he said “this is why you brought me here!” during the playoffs and seemed to actually be into playing basketball for a couple minutes

Times were fun while they lasted but ultimately disappointing overall. Dame is a great player and a great person and he’s always been 1 of my personal favorites in the league. He was fun to cheer for as a Buck but I’m not really all that upset at the situation. Yeah it sucks Dame and Giannis weren’t the Shaq Kobe duo I thought they could be and I feel for Dame battling what he’s dealing with but no better time than now to just move on and find a better direction. Good luck Dame, I’ll be rooting for you when you’re back! Unless you go to LA or Boston, then you’re officially dead to me. God speed!
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

What could have been if we had just hired a good coach from the get-go and immediately re-built a better fitting supporting roster around those two. 62 total minutes of them together in the playoffs is all we got. Class act and hope he can get back healthy.
