I think what's getting buried here is reporting is Pacers low balled myles Turner. Apparently their offer was no where close to bucks offer.

Another team talking about they'll go into tax to keep their core, who went to finals, but just lip service. If anything we should try to go after Pacers gm or president, as they'll be use to cheap owners like Rogers, who wants cost cutting.

Makes no sense from the Pacers end. $27m per year is perfectly reasonable for Turner. It’s almost the exact same contract (relative to the cap) he had when he was making $17m. Just re-sign Turner and dump Toppin and you’ll be under the tax. Even worst case scenario you can trade Turner for value in a year. I get not wanting to pay the tax but this is a dumb way to go about it.

Re-sign Turner and dumped Furphy for a 2nd rounder. Could've traded some other players at the draft for 2nd's.

This is how quickly things can change in the NBA. Even SGA signing that extensions pretty much assures that one of Chet or JDub will have to go. I also laught at people who say the Spurs are "set for the next decade". Uhh no, they are not. The new CBA is set up to prevent that.

With a core of Wemby and Harper, the Spurs though may be the best able to navigate the restrictive CBA because they control a nice chunk of draft capital over the next 5-6 years. They took the approach to spread out their picks which they acquired in trades - so they can replenish their roster with cheaper rookie scale contracts as their veterans eventually become too expensive to keep. They don’t get too attached to their guys and very easily just send them packing for more picks when the time comes.

Look at the Spurs draft record post dynasty. Outside their top 3 picks, it's nothing to write home about.

This idea of banking on cheap young players for championships is very novel. Even in OKC, they needed to bring in Hartenstein and Crusoe to win their chip, and I doubt any of their young guys (or future picks) can replicate them. Until we see otherwise, I'm going to operate under the assumption that you need vets to win at the highest level in this league.

Exactly, it’s a nice concept but you need to draft well and the Spurs have had some big whiffs over the years. The Thunder as well. Giddey and Dieng. In fact, they drafted Dieng ahead of Jdubs.

Also, it’s funny how the narrative has changed about Fox. What’s he done in his career so far? He’s a great player but he needs to prove it when it counts.

But Pascal is way better than Turner? That's not how you analyze a trade. The Pacers would have kept Turner if Hali didn't snap his achilles. There's no point in paying tax for a team without its best player.

Well they had 50 million of dead cap this year because Lillard was out. They signed a bunch of guys onto 2 year deals so they have at worst they have 60 million on the books in Turner,Portis and Lillard’s dead money if Giannis opts out. But yes this was about keeping their generational player.

Stuff like this is what the Nuggs should've been doing the last couple of years. If you're going to keep that generational talent, do whatever you can to put pieces around him.
