If Hali doesn’t tear his Achilles this doesn’t happen.

Pacers are thinking about what happens beyond next year. Mathurin will be given the keys next year, and with Turner signed it would have been nearly impossible to retain him if he balls out, which I think he probably will. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. Now that entire consideration has changed.

Also by reacquiring their pick, the possibility of a mini-tank is on the table. Pacers can play and evaluate the young guys, and actually have the money to keep them now if they play well, and can address the center position later. Pacers have all their picks going forward.

Paying the tax in a clear non-contending year while potentially pricing out their young talent would have been a bad long term move. All for what, to be a tough out in the second round? This is smart long term planning going on here.

Pacers should trade Mathurin ASAP , he is dog shiт , he lost Pacers the finals in a way in game 4

Releasing a player (waiving them) and then using the NBA's stretch provision to spread that player's remaining salary cap hit over a longer period of time. It essentially opens up that cap space and provides short term flexibility for the team to sign a player (in this case, the Bucks) but they'll still be paying Dame Lillard his guaranteed salary for the next 5 years.

Thank you, appreciate the explanation. I was not aware that teams could do this.

Lose / lose situation. He’s not good enough for the Bucks to get him, but Indiana may have no path to replace him.

They don't have any bad contracts in year 3-5 so they are better shape to absorb it. And there is a decent chance Giannis is gone year 3-5 so that is probably money they need to hit the salary floor.

They didn't lose any assets and able to add a legit starting center.

Great move for the Bucks next year but horrible move for the Bucks the 4 years after that.

Problem is that Turner doesnt even put the Bucks in championship contention. They have the worst guard rotation in the nba.

Yup, they remove their other injured star and replace Lopez with a slightly better and younger Turner.
They still have Kuzma as #2 along with Turner now.

Will Giannis stay in MIL when his contract expires with PO in 2 years?
When they are handicapped further with Lillard's stretched salary?

Toppin was better Pacer come playoffs time than Myles Fricking Turner , sorry but that is the truth and I watched every single game

Did you tune out when the Pacers were on defense?

Pacers defense was solid as a collective defense , Nembhard Hali Obi , not fricking Myles alone

Myles played a significant part of their collective defense.

Holmgren was trash and a big part of that was Turner completely shutting him down on drives to the basket. In addition to his rim protection helping with others driving as well.

Of course not, now the Bucks have Giannis and Turner who is a glorified Lopez and Kuzma as the scorer without a true star next to Giannis.

Feels like they will be better next year only because Lillard woulndt be playing and they upgraded with Turner but now, they are nothing but an average team even in the East with Giannis and no future healthy Lillard to look forward towards.

Ouch!

Chris Haynes is just a mouthpiece for Dame. It's common knowledge. Shams is reporting that Giannis actually helped recruit Turner to Milwaukee.

The bucks should sign Westbrook as well. He is a big risk but I like the idea of having shooters spacing bigs of portis and turner. Might not be a bad option they need another shot creator when Gianass sits.

LOL, then opponents would pack the middle and dare Giannis, Kuzma and Westy to shoot from outside.

That would be hilarious!

Not the greatest fit at all but I would strictly play Westbrook with only shooting lineups. They badly need some guard play. Relying on Kevin porter jr full time seems bad. Or maybe CP3 but I know gianass doesn’t like him

I think they would have if Haliburton wasn't out for the season.

Instead of waiting for one year and praying Lillard is gentleman who will decline his player's option, they are now stuck for 5 years, $22,5M a year on his contract.

All that for what? It's still team without any perimeter talent and Lopez for Turner isn't that much of an upgrade overall.

You really hope for anything but first round exit with your starters being Kevin Porter, Gary Trent and Prince?

Delusion of that team took another level. But makes sense raelly. People who thought Kuzma is good player did this ...

I feel sorry for Bucks fans, that team can't even start rebuild until 2031. And Giannis will still leave eventually.

Wow. So what are Pacers going to do for Center? I assume they have a backup plan.

What are some good adjectives to describe someone believing Lillard would decline his massive player option out of the goodness of his heart?

Naive? Disillusioned?

I mean you got to give the boy credit. "Giannis will still leave eventually" is some grade A old school Maddenism right there

See he went on vacation. He left. I was right

See he retired. Told you he'd be gone at some point

Hate to break it to people wanting Giannis to leave but your gonna be waiting a while. If he isnt asking out this year he isnt turning down another supermax extension next year so youll still be waiting
