Attaching two seconds to trade Pat is very underwhelming. Did we have to do that to bring in Turner?

I wouldn’t give them the pick. You are saving them a bunch of money.

Wild how you can come to this board 100 times without anything of consequence occurring, then the whole future of the roster and payroll can change in 5 minutes. Then the smoke clears, and we will have 40 pages on it by dinner.

From hoopsype re MLE:

The standard mid-level exception is available to over-the-cap teams who haven’t dipped below the cap to use room and whose team salary remains below the first tax apron. It can run for up to four years, with 5% annual raises. Once a team uses the standard/non-taxpayer MLE, that team is hard-capped at the first tax apron for the rest of the league year

The room exception is for teams who go under the cap and use their space. Once they’ve used all their cap room, they can use this version of the mid-level exception, which runs for up to three years with 5% annual raises.

Great lunch break! Wow. Horsty, you done did it again! Would have preferred Rollins over Harris, but maybe we still get him?

I fully did not expect Bobby to be the final '21 champ next to Giannis.

I am thrilled with our two deep roster at every position but SF. If Horst can somehow upgrade at wing with such limited assets then he’s truly a magician.

But…

KPJ/Rollins (I assume/hope)
Trent/Green
Blah
Giannis/Bobby
Turner/Sims

Yeah, I dig that. And we can add any upgrade at 1-3 and rearrange the other dudes due to their versatility.

Vet backup pg as KPJ insurance? Cool, Rollins becomes third pg and plays more off the ball as a backup 2

Add a combo guard or true starting sg? Cool, one of Trent/Green moves to the bench and the other starts at the 3

Find a true 3 that’s a great fit? Perfect

By my count, Horst has signed 7 free agents in the last 48 hours.

Whats the deal with Exum? Was he injured (shocking!) most of last year? Seems like if he was the 2023-24 version of Exum, he would be a great fit. Decent 3% but not sure it is sustainable.

So Micic gets bought out and it’s just Rollins and maybe Markovic getting their contracts too?

KPJ/Rollins?/Jackson
GTJ/Green/Harris
Kuzma/Prince/Livingston
Giannis/Porits/Smith
Turner/Sims/Markovic?

Bucks signed Turner with cap space, have probably split their room exception to Porter and Trent and can only sign minimum vets like they did with Prince and Harris. Since they worked below the cap Bucks have also lost the 7 mil TPE they had from the Midds/Kuz trade.

I can't imagine theyre gonna be sitting on it after these moves today.

Im personally not in favor of trading 31 but id imagine not a whole lot is being left off the table.

De’Anthony Melton would be a solid back up PG and shouldn’t cost the full MLE. He’s a good on ball defender who can shoot.

My God, Horst is like Michael Corleone at the end of Godfather 1. Handling all the family business in one massive flurry.

Hopefully Jon brings Doc into his office and gives him the Carlo treatment to truly finish things off.

Dumb question, but would we save any money dumping AJJ and Livingston and bringing in either a rookie or a vet min that is subsidized by the league?

Good call. This would mean we do not have the MLE then since we're using cap space to sign Turner, right?

The only way I can see this potentially changing is because it isn't official yet, IF Indiana wants a trade exception, we could pivot this into a sign-and-trade and stay over the cap, allowing us to still access the full MLE. I think this is all correct but guys like Frank Madden would definitely know better than me. Also no indication we're pursuing making this a sign and trade.

I think KPJ was signed using the BAE (values are nearly identical - $5,134,000 exception worth and KPJ signed for $5,048,077) so they still have the MLE to work with. Could be wrong tho.

I'm not gonna be a hypocrite when all I wanted from Horst was that he simply pick a direction this offseason and take a swing. Certainly a bigger swing than I thought he'd take, but if we still have the MLE then that plus Kuzma/2031 1st should net you two more legit starter/rotation pieces at the very least. Gotta finish the complete re-tool here and get the biggest lineup anchor (Kuzma) out of here.

The roster is missing a legit on-ball guy and a credible starting level SF. A playmaking SF would be dope, satisfies both needs. Prime Khris would be amazing on this roster, ugh.
