Damn that doesn’t sound good when you put it like that.

We are still under the luxury tax and because poeltl opted in, the year afterwards his salary is still "only" 19,5 mil. RJ should be gone at the end of the season next year. I dont see a long term future for him.
Shakril posting while at the buschenschank.
Not crazy about that 5th year salary for a 34-year old Poeltl but it is what it is. He had all the leverage.

If you want to compete now, this is the price. Committing to a non shooting C up to almost age 35. Bobby taking a risk here.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

A bit surprised they were comfortable with the length, we have traditionally been pretty risk adverse paying guys into their mid 30's.

No surprise. If they weren’t making him available for Durant, this was always coming.

6 years. He still has the two years (he opts in) from his current contract and then the 4 years he extended now. At least thats how i understood it. So essentially he is under contract until the end of season 2031.
Can someone confirm that. I am not 100% sure.
This contract is a bargain. Not only will he opt in for only 19,5 mil in 2026, but also he only gets 26 mil/year and the contract only starts in two years. By then, we will see contracts of 30 mil on the regular for role players.
we have him signed for this year, then he picks up his option year then adds 3 years to it.
so its 5 year total including this year
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl has agreed on a four-year, $104 million contract extension with the franchise through 2029-30, sources told ESPN.
Poeltl will pick up his 2026-27 player option at $19.5M and add three additional years to his deal.

Shams says it runs through the 2029-2030 season. 5 more seasons of Poeltl.

unless ochai is getting 25+mil, we will have no problem keeping him.
170 for our starting line up next year. That doesn’t include all of the guys on rookie contracts, our incoming rookies next year and if even if Ochai is looking for MLE money that’s going to take us into the tax.

I like poeltl, but he should of gotten gafford like contract...
This team has no value contract on it. Everyone feels overpaid.

Unironically, Purtle is our most valuable player.

Re: Shams: Poeltl Extended (4yrs/$104M)
So all those people who were suggesting that Jak was a throw-in in trades or trash or had no trade value might want to reconsider. Keep thinking all our guys have negative trade value and you’ll keep being proven otherwise.
I believe in Masai.
