Waiving Dame and stretching the contract, forcing us to pay him for 3 extra years
Trading Pat and 2 2nds
Buying out the incoming Micic
No longer able to use the MLE OR BAE
No longer able to use the Middleton trade exception

Turner is a huge get but all of the things needed to get him here really destroys any chance of making any more meaningful moves

Some notes here..

- Pat and 2nds for (buyout) Micic could happen even without these Dame and Turner moves just to avoid the tax.

- No longer able to use the MLE or BAE bust still had the room exception.

- No longer able to use the Middleton trade exception, but I highly doubt Bucks would use it either way.

I know it was overly optimistic to think we would utilize every dollar possible but I was still hopeful lol

If Jrue doesn't like Portland as much as it's been reported can they just buy him out and we both take our pgs back and complete the cycle? Dame can go back home and we get Jrue back, both get paid, everyone is happy

What number scoring option does Turner need to be for this to be a contender. 4 at best, right?

I was always skeptical of anyone who thought we were gonna legitimately upgrade the roster with these meager salary exceptions that will almost always net you nothing more than some type of journeyman rotation guy. Leveraging Kuzma's salary plus the 2031 1st was always gonna be the avenue to a legit roster upgrade, and that's become a necessity with these other moves now.

My fear is they think Kuzma will be the guy and not look to trade him

It's still very hard to win a championship and there are many really good teams but I feel better about it than I did yesterday. The small market Brewers keep grinding away and staying in the hunt. The Packers aren't the favorites to win the SB but they're in the mix.

Hope feels good.

I'd have a LOT more hope if Doc were gone, but I hear ya.

IND and BOS will be worse next year. Anything can happen. We have a Giannis. Let's get crazy.

Yea he’s fine but Idk if he’s that much of an upgrade to Brook to warrant all the stuff we had to do to get him here. He might honestly just be Brook of a year or two ago.

To me, this looks like another desaster. We've turned Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton + assets into Miles Turner, Kyle Kuzma and 20m dead cap per year. Let that sink in.

He was 4th in scoring on Indy with 4th in usage for starters at 21%. Brook was 5th in avg points with a usage of 16%. I think we could certainly shrink Kuzma usage if he is even on the team.

He also seemed to be clamouring for a warm city like Miami. I truly believe this will be addition by subtraction. Chemistry matters, but can be fragile and elusive. When you have folks that aren't all the way in, that can suck the life out of your locker room, despite what they tell the media. Looking forward to the Bucks' defence being in the top tier again as well. Like someone has said here, the idea of Dame was always better than the reality.

I could feel Dame's I want no part of being in Milwaukee energy though my TV by his 3rd game as a Buck.

I am elated that he's gone.

I agree. Big "pouting" energy.

I think the biggest benefit from Dame's exit, though, is the return of nuclear-powered gravitational-force Giannis. He is the star that everything else in the Bucks solar system should revolve around. Giannis became "polite" when Dame was competing for touches. I want "exert my will" no apologies, soul-stealing Giannis, and I think this establishes that pecking order and hopefully returns the alchemy that led to our previous championship.

Great post.

I agree, the Buck's best chance to win is with Giannis exerting 100% of his will and having quality players around him. Having another guy who needs touches and needs the ball a lot is a bad mix with Giannis.

Giannis & Dame where a bad fit, but I also think Dame would be a bad fit with a lot of players. Dame is a talented offensive player, but he's a guy who wants his shots and wants his touches and he doesn't care if it's in the flow of game or not. He didn't play off of Giannis. Dame was more Yeah, you're cooking, Giannis. But now it's my turn to shoot. And Dame is a guy who could go 6-23 while not even trying on defense.

Dame wants his touches and wants his shots and he's not willing to sacrifice his game for the better of the team.

I said this 100 times while Dame was a Buck, but his marketing team needs to be in the hall of fame. They actually do a good job painting Dame as this great guy who just wants to win.

Dame is not that guy.

He's probably been the #3 for a contender the last two years. And that's without an elite elite #1 like Giannis.

Side note with Indiana, several of their wing/G types would look perfect for us if they're looking to cheap out on signing them as they leave their rookie contracts. Problem is all the beef with those guys the last few years.

The fact that Horst was able to turn what could have amounted to a dead end after the Dame injury into the potential that is the current roster is nothing short of wizardry. He deserves his flowers for that. I think there is a small vibe of "digging yourself out of your own hole" ala John Hammond, but in the end, that's mostly just life. You try stuff out, and then you pivot when it isn't working. As hexagram 32 teaches paradoxically in the I-Ching, staying open to change is the way to endure. Stagnation is what leads to death.

The Brook of eight years ago...not a year or two. But yes, that's the plan.

Waiving Dame, which might be the greatest addition by subtraction move in NBA history while adding Turner who is going be an insanely amazing fit next to Giannis is incredible.

The thing with Turner is the fact that he is a really good player, but what makes it a great move is the fit.

Waiving Dame is the ultimate addition by subtraction move. And pairing Giannis and Turner might be the ultimate They both make each other better move.

Doing both of those things in 1 day is Wizardry IMO.

I'm happy to have Turner--been wanting him for a couple years. It does suck to have to stretch Dame for 5 years.... It's like paying a starter that's not playing but I feel like the league kinda screwed the Bucks by not giving them any cap relief for Dame's injury.

We just cannot win with the media.
They just want Giannis gone no matter what.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
