I like the Garza pick up. Why not take a chance on Minott during a lost season?

Garza is a mascot who I was glad we got rid of. He went in for 2 minutes to end a half and got scored on literally every single possession with defense that went way beyond bad. He was actually setting screens for ball handlers he was so inept. Minott on the other hand is a legit 9th man on a good rotation. Our coach had beef with him and played a lot of mind games to undermine his confidence and then benched him when he started to struggle. To be fair Finch did this to Dillingham, Clark, Shannon, and Miller (though he played Garza over Miller,) which is why some Wolves fans want Finch fired. I think if your coach gives Minott a fair shake you will be pleasantly surprised.

I actually saw some intriguing stuff there, good small ball 5 for short spurts.

Yeah, this is just incorrect.
Minott is a guy who cannot or does not play defence. He's too upright so constantly gets beaten 1 on 1, and his awareness in a team setting is low if not non-existent. This was true back when he was playing in the G League as well so its not just an NBA thing. For a guy as athletic as he is it's unacceptable. And this is the main reason he wasn't able to get consistent minutes for the Wolves; he got them early in the season but the defence just wasn't there, and that's the requirement for a guy like him on the Wolves these days.
The offence, or specifically the shooting, took a step forward this season. And he's a decent finisher all things considered, so that's a plus. His screens aren't great though and his handle is nothing to write home about.
Your hope is that he probably becomes something like a less athletic Obi Toppin. Just someone that can finish plays and hit 3s every once in a while. And I'm sure he'll be capable of putting up numbers in a bigger role, but I'm also sure he won't be contributing to winning while doing so.

Huh? When did you see him playing the 5?
He's a 3/4 combo forward that isn't particularly bulky. Short of matching up with another team going micro small I can't see him having much success as a 5.

Re: Shams: Minott to BOS
Even with all of the above, this is a fine flier for the Celtics to take.
He had some interesting indicators pre-draft so taking him for the minimum and hoping either the Wolves mismanaged him or that your system can bring out something different isn't going to cost anything. Low risk, mid reward.

Don't really remember, I don't follow the Wolves, maybe against the Lakers? That's my memory of him..

Fun fact, Minott’s defensive woes began in earnest after he lost his rotation spot to Dilly when the ankle healed. His plus minus and overall game impact was good before that. The loss of minutes followed by half rotations and constant benching (usually after one mistake,) was what undermined him. Time will tell who is right, assuming Minott even gets on the court for Boston.

I think you might have him confused for someone else honestly.
And I want to make it clear that's not meant as a shot at you. I wouldn't have any idea about the 13th men on other rosters either, and sadly I barely have time to watch Wolves games these days let alone other teams.
I was just curious if I'd missed something.

We have to go back to KG for a good player coming over from there. It's been more Juancho than KG.

Re: Shams: Minott to BOS
At any rate it’s interesting that Boston has gone really offense heavy with these fill in guys.
I know he was highly regarded (in a relative way) by MIN fans after the draft but didn’t realize he was more of an offense guy I would have assumed he was better on the defensive end.

If you're not gonna be good, at least be entertaining?

Yeah it seems more than coincidental - Simons, Niang, Garza and I guess Minott who I would have assumed was more defensively oriented but apparently not.

I can also confirm that Josh Minott is arguably the most useless defensive player of all time, despite being a terrific athlete. He’s going to put up points for you guys if he gets minutes, though. He’s shown a lot of intriguing things, but he just hasn’t been able to reach even the “subpar”-tier defensively.
A bit surprised that Boston didn’t just trade nothing for him at a lower salary, rather than giving him two guaranteed years, but he’ll put up points and make some Boston fans excited about his potential, at least.
