Well hitch up the trailer Jeffie…time to use some of that massive treasure chest of picks for Claxton. Have no idea if they’d take our offer, but Green and Williams works in trade machine. It’s very tricky relative to making a deal work within financial rules, but if they’re trading Claxton they’re in a complete rebuild. Send them lots of future picks, some firsts and a bucket load of seconds. This is your old team Peterson. If anyone has an in it is you. Send them Plumber too if they want a center but don’t think that adder makes it work.
Another combo that works financially is Green, Tiddy and NSJ. Whomever we offer it will take a bunch of picks to win out. BTW, Claxton isn’t the gift of all centers, but he is a really good defender who can knock down some shots, with an occasional “keep em honest” 3 in the mix (bad % though).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

He's literally a downgrade from Mark lol
What's with this over hype for Claxton. I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing with this kid. He was 10/7 last year.

It’s his defense that is key. He can score some, rebounds OK not great, but his D has had him nominated for DPOY consideration. I would have preferred Sharpe, but apparently he prefers the Nets, and the Nets see him as their future at the 5. So Claxton may be available for the right overinflated price.

So the Nets are willing to trade Claxton because they view Sharpe as a better center.
Yet we want Claxton?
Also I thought this dude had anger management problems in the past. I remember seeing a clip of him on YT going crazy at players lol

The defense at 5 is valuable enough that Wolves had to empty their draft cupboard for Rudy Gobert, and they've reached the Western Conference Finals 2 years straight with him starting at center.
He is not there for offense at all.
Claxton can guard 1-5 so he's going to command multiple 1st round picks. I say 3.
It has been written...

Some of these deals are ridiculous. Ball and Bridges are now on very fair deals
Milwaukee thinking they can win the championship with 22.5 million of dead money every year for 5 years is asinine, they are basically a SGA or Luka away still

Nets had the 20th ranked defense the last two years with Claxton playing 70 games both years, I'm skeptical he's some kind of anchor

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
I also really don't understand what the Raptors are doing, their entire team is locked in and they aren't any better than 9th in the East with their only upside being Scottie Barnes improvement
That Bucks team is going to be extremely awful in 5 years, like what the current Nets are without any of the first round picks the Nets have unless they offload Giannis before he declines
One of these **** ran teams like the Raptors or Bulls will jump 7 spots and win the lottery and be saved, because of dumbass Silver

The east is beyond wide open.

Does anyone else think that taking lower ceiling players in this draft makes even less sense if they were basically planning on punting next season again? Doesn't it make more sense to aim for a bit more upside if you are tanking again?
I would have went for more upside regardless, but I don't get the point of taking safer players you think can make an impact sooner if they aren't actually trying to be good anytime soon.

Cleveland, Orlando, and New York, look really good. The drop off after that looks like it could be massive.
I have a feeling Orlando is really going to break out next year.

It'll make sense next year

I think punting last season was the correct move and is exactly what I would have done. I hate nearly everything theyve done this offseason. Adding more 2nd round picks and another late 1st has limited added utility at this point.
They already have two recent top 3 picks with all-star talent, one of which is arguably the most talented player in franchise history. They had a talented starting center. They already had a ton of picks going into this offseason. They had a top 4 pick in this draft and two early 2nds. There is no excuse to be going into next season in a position where they legitimately need to tank again for another top pick, but this is pretty much where they are at this point. There was reason to punt last season that was out of their control. If they go into next season in the same position its entirely a self inflicted choice.

Feels like we are being cheap. I mean give out some one year deals that can be packaged in a trade if need be.

Milwaukee are still so far away from a finals team, unless Kevin Porter Jr suddenly figures it out and becomes a great point guard, that really is a crappy team.
Giannis and Turner would be great in NBA Jam but that team needs a whole lot more
