Dame's Next Team

Poll.

Discuss.

Edit: Redid the poll with Miami and Portland replacing Cleveland and Clippers. But the votes didn't reset.

So Miami would have ~25. more votes than showing.

If it's about fit on a rising potential contender that could use his skill set... I'd go Orlando. If it's about sitting on a bench to ring chase glamorously, I could see New York, Denver, or Houston. If it's about finishing his career for the vibes and narrative, return to Portland (I think they should at least be a poll option).

I don't want to be a downer but, I'm not sure it matters where a 36-year-old (Dame's age when he theoretically returns) coming off an achilles rupture comes back to join a team. He'll be on a roster because he's Dame Lillard but I think it would be a bit of a miracle if he was a contributor.

Depending on his rehab, it wouldn't surprise me if he went back to Portland to be a playor/mentor until he retires.

I know Dame is from Oakland but the Warriors don't make sense because Dame and Curry cannot share the floor without destroying their own defense, especially the Dame that's going to return from this Achilles tear at age 36.

My guess would be either Miami or one of the LA teams but I could see him landing with whatever interested team has the best title shot.

Most likely option of Miami isn’t even listed.

That was my first thought too. There’s a good chance that a year from now Portland is considered a rising team that he could help bring back to relevance, Scoot is still their only real lead guard so there’d be minutes for him, and they have good defensive infrastructure. Not to mention the market for an undersized guard off of an achilles will probably not be kind

It brings a tear to me eye to see the Knicks as a glamorous ring chasing option. My heart wants him to come home to Portland though.

I could see Utah. He went to college here, and I think we would be fine with him not suiting to this year.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Didn't Dame said he miss home and wanted to be closer to family? He was thinking of opt-ing out anyways.

If Milwaukee is "far" from home, why would he want to play in Miami or Toronto?

At 35-36 years old, he should just retire. Battling age in your mid 30s is tough enough, but rehab for this injury makes the obstacle super high with the potential payout pretty low.

I could see Dame taking the Vince Carter path of just playing until he literally cant. He is that type of guy IMO. Loves to hoop.

If he still wants to play basketball, this is one where he needs to put ego aside and find a role on a contender as a 6th man type playing 20-25 minutes a game. Dame is too old and fragile at that age to be required to be a second or third option on a consistent basis.

He’s still going to be paid very well for a while so it won’t be a money decision.

Sorry about that. I was going off the top contenders other than OKC. That was the one non contender I should have included. Never underestimate the power of a BBL.
