If he waited another year he could have gotten $100mil more so he's generous giving a discount and signed for less I'm not sure how he's going to survive on that in Oklahoma.
I'm recycling the script from last summer when Brunson signed his contract so the details might be a little off, pardon me.

Good for SGA. He gets his bag.
Now he can afford a cottage in the Muskokas.

Once they pay the others, they'll create an expiring date on their championship window.

He gets paid 71 mil a year but probably is worth 5x that to OKC's bottom line
Do we really believe SGA brings in 355 mil in one year AFTER expenses on his own to OKC? I’d love to see some actual OKC revenue numbers.

why sign now and not take the 5/$380 after next season?
only reasons I can think is he's young, and he'll get (at least) another long term max deal, and this enables him to get it sooner. the other reason might be to allow OKC to re-sign other players, but not sure

Money well spent - best young player in the nba - right up there with Giannis and Jokic-
Humble face of the league - If he was American, he would be Kobe - but since he is an international, with a family, and a boring middle class healthy back story and stays out of trouble, comes in on shape and just hoops …. There isn’t enough controversy to generate the debate about the merit of his mvp or of this contract…
Happy for him and for all the youngesters that get a “role model” for hoops that plays both ends hard, is team first while stepping up and playing his role within the system without all the unnecessary JERK BS that Kobe and MJ brought to the equation and the off the court attention that LeBron brings (- I am NOT judging the merit of the work LBJ does off the court but even good non-basketball attention is still a distraction imo) - you just get hoops from SGA

I wouldn't pay SGA given his issues, but its a small market team so I get that you have to sign the MVP for as long as possible, but I just hope it doesn't go to his head even more. Hopefully his 8 turnovers in Game 6 which is probably an all-time record for turnovers by a team's leading scorer in Game 6, hopefully that keeps him grounded.

Utterly absurd. The escalation of contracts in today's league are just a joke.

he needs a time machine where he reaches his current level like 3 years ago and he needed a way better playoffs this year and going forward.

Obviously an injury could happen but in the hypothetical instance something goes bad in the next 2 years after the chip, this protects against that, so while SGA is at an absoluete high in terms of vibes, you get him an extra 4 years.

Probably so OKC won't have to pay him $100m per year.cpower wrote:SGA got paid.. why the rush though? He still has 2 years on his contract

Time machine? Is Shai like 30 or something?
MJ didn't win until he was 28. Shai just locked up the MVP, Finals MVP and his first chip at 26. He's on track to become one of the GOATs.
