That Jakob Poeltl extension. Ack, mine eyes. The Raptors capsheet is horrendous.

It will be curious to see where Bobby Webster takes this. At least it's not a whole new GM reinterpreting the situation.
Poeltl is pretty important on the floor and easily tradeable. Starting quality centers who can protect the rim and are versatile in the pick & roll on offense will always have suitors.
Barnes, Quickley, and Ingram are all one fairly fat contracts. At least Quickley and INgram's dont rise much. If Quickly has a starter-quality season this year, the flat 32m/year will look less damaging going forward. Right now it's AWFUL though and no guarantee it doesn't stop being awful.
RJ and Poeltl are tradeable though. Other than that, no one knows what the Raptors even are.

Poeltl is absolutely fine and RJ is the odd man out (since they have Agbaji, Dick and Jakobe Walter), but that big 3 of Barnes-Quick and BI? When you see the salaries being paid out to their starters, this should be a 50+ win, team should it not? Quickley's contract is an eyesore. And so is Ingram's. I'm not going to quibble with Scottie because he's their guy, but the other two are just poor contracts.

They have the payroll of a 50-win team. Absolutely. Their payroll is in between Denver's and OKC's, and I dont think anyone projects them better than a play-in team.
We'll know more about what they are this season. Last year they had 1 guy play more than 65 games (Jamal Shead), and possibly zero games of their intended starting lineup? I'm not saying they're good, I'm more saying we have no idea what this team is. This year, if they have normal health, we'll learn quickly if this is a team that has any chance of justifying their payroll, or if big restructuring trades are on the immediate horizon.

Apparently update on Horford has been Warriors or Lakers. Really wonder if he's going to be Philly Horford moment he's not on the Celtics anymore

It already happened before and he came back and won a title. If he wants to chase a ring next year that’s cool. That’s kind of why the Lakers make no sense. At least if Tatum comes back in March the Celtics still have a shot at making some noise. The Lakers aren’t doing anything at all.

Raps did a shameless, and I mean shameless tank last year. Starters hardly played together for more than what, 15 games?
I predict that if they start clicking they can be really good in the east, if not , play-in is where it’s gonna be unfortunately.
I also think trading Scottie will be the only way someone eats Quickly’s contract.

Yeah I don't know why Horford would even consider going back to Embiid's team after it didn't work last time.

I'm interested in seeing this group play together, but not currently optimistic.
Right now there's a lot of ugly, crampy spacing on this roster with Poeltl and Barnes bad up front, and RJ below average. Quickley can shoot it. Ingram can but you have to force him to (he wants to live in the midrange). The Raps went out and drafted a Barnes-y non-shooter in the lottery.
Defensively, I like things when Poeltl is on the floor, but I don't expect anything better than an average defense. The personnel absolutely has the potential to be better than that. If things pop for the Raptors, it's likely on defense. I haven't seen a drop of defense from Coach Darko, but we haven't seen him in a serious season yet.

The Bucks absolutely not, but why not the Nuggets.
They just took the champs to the brink, and have probably improved their team.

Or…you could listen to what his dad said and people close to him have said that February-March is the target. They won’t rush him but if he’s ready to go and gets medically checked out why not?

And he can aim for an early return but i see no reason to come back earlier than the standard 12 months.
As i mentioned elsewhere, i know Kobe is his idol but he doesn't have to do everything exactly like Kobe did.

Every year is different. But Jokic is another year older/slower on defense, and he’s still gonna have a huge load. , Murray is still inconsistent, they good some good role players I guess. But nothing about that roster screams contender.
They are probably gonna lose in the second round again tbh.

They could show improvement though but lose in the second round because of how the bracket shakes out. What if they finished 2nd in the West and lost to Houston who was the 3rd seed? Do they have to win the title this upcoming season or it's a failure?

Re: 2025 NBA Offseason Trade and Free Agency Discussion Thread
It’ll be awesome to watch Denver’s offense now. The potential of a Murray/THJ/Johnson/Gordon/Jokic lineup, a Murray/Jokic pnr with 3 above average catch and shoot players can wreak havoc.
