Mark was a net negative post injury. How he played when he was drafted is why he was pick 15. Kalk may be better than Mark is now. Who knows, he just got drafted.....

Okay, but my point is, Mark is gone. Your current roster choice at Center is Plumlee, Kalk, Diabete. Who you gonna start?

Fully expect a big ole plate of MooseKalk with a hint of Plum sauce. If Plum isn’t C3, I’ll be pissed.

I know you really liked Mark, but he was essentially the Jordan Poole of centers for us, and it didn't seem like he'd ever turn it around

Can we not overhype this guy? He went in the 2nd round for a reason. Expecting him to be some sort of savior and be a better player in year 1 than Mark Williams is setting everyone up to hate the pick in 4 months.

My expectations are that he'll be as good if not better out of the gate than 35 year old Plumlee (defensively anyway) and far more deserving of minutes. It's a pretty low bar.

This said, any middling signing (Bryant, Kornet, etc.) would've bounced him to the end of the bench.

Until I get a good look at this guy my expectations are 1980s big white stiff aka Tim Kempton joe Klein. The kind of dude found at the end of every center rotation back then. Not sure he's gonna be able to score more than two feet from the basket. So I really hope he legit has three point range at least 33%. That's his best way to stay on the floor.

Maybe he spends the first month with the team then goes to Greensboro for a month, kind of like Mark did his rookie season. then by January he moves up to number two on the depth chart ahead of Plumlee.

yeah I think y'all are setting yourselves up for disappointment thinking he's going to be some viable mark replacement. about in the same way I think y'all are snorting a ton of copium thinking a moose, bwk, mase rotation is going to be anything other than abused on a nightly basis

i can already see the the posts when Plumdog is starting on opening night

"well actually it makes sense to bring Moose off the bench so his energy can spark the second unit"

"of course we arent starting a 2nd round rookie he just needs to develop a bit in the G League like we did with Mark and Nick!"

Honestly if Kalkbrenner is healthy for 80% of our games I'll find that to be miracle enough

Most of you guys have not seen him, but you will see him in SL next week and it’ll become clear why he went in the second round. He’s a good player with a real skillset who tries… but he’s so goddamn slow that he’s gonna have a rough transition period to NBA spacing and athleticism.

He can only play drop coverage and isn’t quick in anything, doesn’t have quick hands, isn’t quick off the ground, isn’t a particularly elite defensive mind either. He’s just huge with long arms and there’s value in that, but let’s be serious. His best case scenario is a slower Luke Kornet and that will take a couple years to see.

No one’s ever going to accuse Kalk of being a great athlete but he’s far from a stiff:

At the combine, his ¾ sprint was a hair faster than Knueppel, and clearly faster than guys like Malauch, Queen, Wolf.

Standing vertical is the same as Flagg and better than Ace Bailey.

Vertical better than Fleming, Raynaud

Shuttle run better than Tre Johnson, Cam Jones, Carter Bryant.

I don't expect him to wow anyone with speed and hops, he is clearly slow to gather (and shoot), and he won't be chasing guards around the perimeter like Moose, but also don't expect he'll be out of his depth athletically.

Not expecting a starter but he gets stops without ever fouling. There must be something there.

I think he is going to a lot better than some folks think. He has a nice hook shot, he is kinda nasty on both ends of the floor and has good timing on his blocks. I think he can be solid.
