Because he sure seems like he’s content to watch this ship slowly sink. The plan can’t be to just wait out Jo and PG’s contracts

Right now it's the only option he has. His bed was made with those inane signings, and unless and until the two of them play and possibly show they have something left there will be no market for them.

Morey is clearly looking to the future with who he has brought in and drafted, and it's going to take patience and avoiding the knee-jerk 'action' that fans want to see to believe that he is doing 'something'. To me, this has been an excellent off season that could only be better if someone actually made an offer for George.

Who cares about being competitive next year, that shouldn't be the goal.

All that matters is:

Joel and Paul healthy enough to trade.

Maxey, McCain, Edwards and VJ develop.

We're never winning anything meaningful with Joel, this entire season should be about rehabilitating his value enough to move by trade deadline or next summer.

Yep, I was sure Thierro would be the pick there. Totally agree on the off-season grade.

I want to see Jeff Teague courtside for the Ace/Edwards matchup.

I don't get why Igor Milicic isn't on the summer league team. He was signed to an Exhibit 10 by the Sixers.

idk but having actual forwards on the roster would help develop guys as well.

I am not asking for them to go all in either but wasting time filling roster spots with guys with no future or who are washed is also bad.

Plus we aren't going to tank next year anyway..its not about building around Jo's window but rather fielding an actual NBA team that allows the youth to grow and for us to find out if they are good or not without the "wait until he doesn't have to share the floor with Kyle Lowry's corpse doe"

If all those things come true, then we’ll be a very competitive team in the East. I think all the incentives are aligned for us to build a young team and try to win as many games as possible.

We’re very unlikely to get a top 4 pick next year so no need to tank. Embiid/George healthy and producing will lead to wins & increased trade values. The young guys developing positively means they’ll be playing good basketball and contributing to winning.

The staff and players should absolutely be focused on trying to make a dark horse title run. Morey should continue what he’s doing - building a young, athletic core with a bright future.

I thought Simone Fontecchio was possibly available. Oubre salary would have matched. Not sure Detroit would have had any interest in Oubre, unless attaching 2nd/s

A great fit at PF would be John Collins. Sign and trade Grimes and add Drummond for Collins. Jazz need Guards.

There's no incentive not to try and compete this season (or next) without owning our pick. We shouldn't break the bank for any acquisitions, but using smaller assets to fill out the roster should be a goal.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards/Council
George/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

The incentive not to compete is to prioritize minutes and development for the young players on the team and find lineups that let them work on their respective games.

I'm not really interested in VJ and McCain standing around watching Joel trying to grift 20 FTs a game all season.

Ehh I don’t but into that fully. I get that there’s nothing he can do to make the team a championship contender next year, but doing nothing also isn’t the answer. He can continue to get younger and try to acquire intriguing talent with potential. To me, status quo (minus Yabu) is the worst case scenario. At least start to steer the team in the right direction.

The incentive to compete is Morey/Nurse keeping their jobs, so it's all a moot point anyway.

Nurse gets fired, he still gets paid, he DGAF. And then he can pursue his first love which is clearly music.

Morey will get another job in five seconds if he gets canned here, I don’t think he GAF either.

The incentive to compete is Harris didn’t pay half a billion last summer (or whatever it was to sign those three) to tank. And oh by the way they don't own their own pick this year anyway.

Morey’s answer about Embiid being ready to go for camp this year: “Things are on track to be ready right around there”. Now I don’t know about you guys, but that answer certainly sounds like the no-confidence hedge to me.

Oh, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they want Grimes to take his QO. Makes it much easier to dodge the tax in February again.

No doubt the cheap bastard is scheming to avoid the tax again.

I like Josh Giddey here. 6'8 pg only 22. We don't have a true pg. This would be a nice core piece.

Even if he "doesn't GAF" why would he do things to help the future GM? Why would a coach focus an entire year on developing talent instead of competing? Both jumped at the opportunity to go to a contender. Their next job, if they would even get it, would likely be their last one before being pushed out the league. I think waving your hands that they don't care is unrealistic if I'm being honest. You don't get many, if any, multi million dollar contracts in your life.
