He's a 4 who can play some 5.

He's not a 3, though the differences between 3 and 4 hardly exist anymore. But by skillset, he's more a 4.

He is a great 5 out power forward. Not really someone I would think as a starter but if the Knicks wanted to do 5 out for 20 minutes he would be great.

McBride
Hart
Clarkson
Yabu

Is a very good bench. I think they can use a little more, because 82 games is 82 games but they definitely added depth. Yabu is MLE good, his sample size was just small because the Philly roster was in disarray & they benched him near the end of the year to tank. Which lowkey I think was when he decided to leave because he was trying to earn a bigger contract.

Athletic big body giving me Anthony Mason vibes. Love this. I'm hoping Hart moves to the bench and Huk gets a promotion.

Mitch | Huk
KAT | Yabu
OG | Hart
Bridges | Deuce
Brunson | Clarkson

Ton of energy and defensive presence on that second group. Plenty of scoring punch too. Not elite from three, but not the worst either. Any sane coach would use them to push the pace and run, run, run.

Roster is very versatile also to be flexible with rotations etc or in the event of injury. Only position that isn't really covered well is backup PG in the event Brunson is out for an extended period of time. I assume they would just start Deuce?

Him & Yabu could be a deadly combo.

Agreed. I think with regular minutes he can have a similar impact that Grimes had for us early.

I understand the excitement about adding another talented player but can someone please tell me about his defense? The last time I watched the Knicks their 2 best players were being hunted mercilessly on defense and we didn't have a solution for it. I know if Clarkson comes in when Brunson is out good teams will target him also.

Just looking at the numbers I see Yabusele played a ton of minutes at the 5 this year with Embiid out. He averaged .3 blocks per game in 27 minutes with opponents shooting 72% against him at the rim on 5fga while he picked up fouls at a slightly lower rate than KAT. Is he good defensively on the perimeter or is he another guy that will get attacked on defense or does nobody care about his defense? :D

I’m guessing that the team is going all out on offense. I doubt that Mitch starts, and I think they’ll go 5 out. McBride at point of attack and OG + Mikal helping and recovering.

They’ll try to be best on offense, and middle of the road defensively.

Yeah, I would like to try Deuce in the starting lineup to provide point of attack defense, a little bit of ball handling and better spacing.

My biggest concern is that last year they had the ability to have a middle of the road defense partially because the defense was much better when Brunson and KAT weren't on the floor together. I'm not sure if they have enough offense to negate 48 minutes of poor defense at 2 positions if 2 of Brunson, Clarkson, KAT and Yabusele are on the court most of the time if Yabu is also a poor defender.

I'm just hoping Yabusele has some strengths defensively that I don't know about.

# of proven players who can play the 3, with the correct height: OG/Mikal.

Great roster construction.

Then again, Yabusele lets the Knicks slide OG to if Mikal goes down, so it's ok, I guess.

Damn. Not enough to complain about.

I’m can find some things

I think we are too Thibs minded. As long as the new coach isn’t as rigid in how he works the rotation it shouldn’t matter who starts and who doesn’t. Thibs was pretty keen on having a starting unit and a bench unit and leaving the starting unit as is was one of his main downfalls IMO.

The roster they put together seems very interchange. I don’t see Deuce starting because it will be tough to get Mitch, Yabu, Hart the requisite minutes at the 3,4,5 if they all coming off the bench.
If they lean into 5 out principles, I could totally see Yabu starting at the 4 with JC, Deuce, Hart and Mitch off the bench.

Once again they can go over to meet the 14 player minimum roster.

Going over the apron triggers the clock on the pick freeze though right?. If we go over this year we will be at risk of hitting that mark before these guys contracts are up. Why do that for 36k? I am sure Yabusele is cool with taking a little bit less.

After the Yabusele deal (TMLE), we are hard capped into the second apron just like last season.
