The big thing for me is DeRozan can really score the ball, and Miami desperately needs someone other than Herro who can get his own offense and create for others.

Under contract until 2027. To what end?

This is the move to make if the goal is to be the 7-8 seed

I don't see Miami positioning the team to tank. Miami may still miss the playoffs, but the team will try to make the playoffs, and DeRozan helps with that goal. And as Riley pointed out in his end of the year press conference, Miami lost ~18 games where they had 20 point leads. If Miami cuts that in half, we're talking a 45-46-win team.

Beyond that, maybe DeRozan can help Herro (and others) improve their offensive games. Having veteran mentors is a big plus, and DeRozan has been an olympian and played in San Antonio under Popovic.

It definitely beats just letting Rozier expire.

Who is dismissing anyones criticism? I have been lurking the past few days and there’s literally hundreds of posts bitching about how Miami has failed the offseason and doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Then I go look up the transactions that actually happened…and it’s a bunch of boring marginal player free agent deals? From the reaction here I thought we gave up Ware and draft picks for something, or missed a clear superstar, or something crazy like that.

Just because a couple posters are trying to have perspective, that isn’t silencing anyone.

All I'm saying is not everyone who says something negative is a doomer who thinks the sky is falling and scrolls on Twitter all day. People can have valid criticism without bringing up "well, the Heat are a great franchise." I'm not saying people are being silenced. I'm just saying a rational and logical perspective is fine, but not only if it's positive. I try to be balanced. I'm not in the same boat as the people who go on every Tweet and bitch about Pat. Sometimes, people get grouped together here. But I only speak for myself.

In your mind after going to the finals in 23 was it time to trade Butler, Herro etc and stockpile assets? Or how about in 22 after we came a wide open 3 PT shot from Butler from going to the Finals? I’m curious to know when the time for the Heat to tank was or the big asset they could have traded away for picks, considering the two biggest trade pieces before Herro, Bam and Butler left for nothing or had a career ending medical situation.

I'd rather have the younger guys because you never know how they pan out for us. Plus, you're getting two guys. I know what Derozan is going to be. The main thing is just getting these contracts out, either way.

Should we be scared?

I don’t know what his contract looks like, but from a basketball perspective, it obviously makes us better. However, we aren’t going to get past any of the major teams in the east. If it helps us get out of Rozier’s contract, we don’t give up too much, and we don’t jeopardize ourselves financially for next year…then I’m indifferent.
