Kuminga’s qualifying offer, extended over the weekend by the Warriors, is $7.9 million, but his cap hold is $22.9 million, further clogging the Warriors’ books if his situation drags deeper into July.

Maybe I'm crazy but seems like there is a case for rescinding the QO if there is no sign and trade that both Kuminga and the Warriors like...

Can you rescind QOs? I thought you couldn't

Why do I have a feeling that Lillard's gonna come to us on a discount?

Any QO not signed by the player can be rescinded. The Bucks just did that with Ryan Rollins. The QO lasts until October 1 (well, prior to the 2023 CBA; don't know about now). Technically, the QO can be extended up to March 1, but it is rare for a team to go past October 1.

Just to rehab? Or like to sign and play after sitting a year?

It'll be like waiting for Klay to come back 2.0....

He's expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025-26 season.

I thought I was crazy for proposing its a possibility. But I can see why and how he ends up here. Lillard was unhappy in Millwaukee with how far it was from family.

Now its a strong possibility he just signs with Portland on a one year minimum deal and rehabs at home. Makes sense for him.

The other option is us. The Bay Area guy goes to where he grew up thats a short flight to Portland. He spends most of the year rehabbing with us, we let him do his thing. Our hope being he can get right for the playoffs and give us some extra punch off the bench.

Why would Portland waste a roster spot on him?

It's a good point I don't think Portland is playoff good to take a shot at him on a playoff return. Us, Denver, Clippers probably the three teams that might roll the dice.

With Lance signing with the Cavs, our Horford backup plans are running out fast…

Boucher maybe?
Lyles is decent?
See what Andris is up to in Latvia?

The worry seems to be that if we sign someone with the plan of it being the TPMLE, then another team can sign Kuminga to an offer sheet just over what we have left… but i just dont see anyone doing that with a close to 25m first year.

If nobody has offered Kuminga money yet, his advisors would be smart to just take the warriors offer so they can sign Horford who actually helps Kuminga get more minutes.

The team can unilaterally rescind the qualifying offer until July 13. After that the player and team can agree to rescind it. The player has until October 1 to accept it. The cap hold that Slater mentions is irrelevant, there's no reason to even bring it up.

You come into these things hopeful but the reality with two guys eating $114m of cap, we were only ever fighting for crumbs left on the table.

Just imagine the driving lanes for Kuminga alongside Steph, Dame, Buddy, and Post! They'd be 6-lane freeways. Sure, they'd give up 160 points a game, but it would be fun to watch.

Hard to see the Warriors, and Lacob in particular, walking away from what they perceive as an asset. Many of the big players looking for NTMLE money are gone.

But if they did rescind the QO, the Warriors could use the NTMLE to acquire two $7M players, the Bi-Annual for a $5.1M player, and two vet minimums to get to 14 players, staying below the 1st apron in the process. That would give them three shots at players looking for a touch more than the vet minimum. They could also use part of their $8.8M TPE instead of splitting the NTMLE.

Not the greatest of ideas, but right now it looks like the Warriors are going to have very poor choices for filling out the roster.
