The main reason I might be ok with trading Brown before the season starts is because of his injury. I'm concerned about his explosiveness going forward or re-injury from the above scenario of him trying to prove something. If there is a great offer out there then take it IMO, but only because of this reason.

If Brown attempts that they will likely lose 50 games. Brown got paid. What's another turnover?

This season Kuzma makes $22.4 million and is not expiring
If shaving $5 million is the goal, Marcus Smart makes $21.6 and is expiring

don't know if Washington wants to make that Ant-Marcus swap or if Brad wants to welcome back Marcus though ...
it might be kind of rude to bring Smart back during a rebuild just as salary matching... its like getting back with your exwife for a tax break or something

hugepatsfan wrote:
redslastlaugh wrote:Simons for Kuzma doesn't really help much because Simons is an expiring and Kuzma is $20 next year
It could help if the trade is expanded for Hauser/Niang + Simons for Kuzma + Micic

if you would even want to do that? I guess, if you're getting MIL 2031 FRP back unprotected, I guess you think about it.

Or if Charlotte will take Kuzma + 2nds for Collin Sexton?

keevsnick1 wrote:The two possible remaining destinations for a Simons trade seem to be the Bucks and Pistons.

Pistons have lost TGJ, Dennis Schroeder and probably Beasley with the gambling scandal. They could use a three point bomber and have plenty of room for financial maneuvering. Stewart+Fontechio gets it done, then spin off Fontecchio. Simons-->Stewart saves 12 million.

Bucks have nothing at guard. They are now well below the tax so if Boston just wants to save 5 million they could swap Simons for Kuzma. Doesn't really help the lack of a big problem tho.

I think Hauser into some teams MLE or TPE is likely very easily doable even outside of this construct. So even if it's needed to really help salary, it doesn't need to be pulled into this deal.

$5M might not sound like much, but it's actually huge. They can duck the tax with Simons on the team, but it's tight. Like literally pinching pennies. They can duck the tax by dumping Hauser/Niang/Tillman but there's a catch... dumping those guys now and signing vet mins or even rookie mins would put them back over the tax line. They have to wait to do it until mid year that way they can backfill with pro rated vet min deals instead of full season amounts. The calc is that tight for them. Shaving $5M off Simons seems small, but it makes a huge difference for where they're at if they do want to duck the tax.

Terrible idea to bring Marcus back. They might win too many games.

Not sure why giannis wants to waste in milwaukee

He should demand a trade to a team with a track record that wont gut roster to get him

Giannis x Tatum dominates the east and wins chips

Yes, just not $53M, $57M, $61M and $65M worth of game.

The cap is $151M next year. The new CBA has made it impossible to carry two players who collectively make 70% of the cap and expect to have a winning team. OKC will find that out when their guys want to get paid.

Ok. So Devin booker with $70m? You have brown for $52 or bookst for $70m?

Sga getting $71.2M. What you paying Jalen Williams and Chet? That brown contract ain't an albatross. Celtics could trade him in 5 minutes.

Salary cap for 2025-26 is 154.6m.

For 2026-27, it's projected to be at 165m.

I don't know where 151m came from.

For the record. Boston owes almost 146 million in 2026 to the Jays and White alone.

135 for this upcoming season and one of those guys aren't even playing.

This is a major problem. We don't have the depth to work within those parameters.

If the Suns want to pay Booker 70M a year, that's their dumb ownership. They won't come any closer to winning than they did this year. And as I said, OKC will have to break up that team. Chet made $12M last year, Williams made $7M. Their role players like Caruso and Dort were under $20M. That's why they had the depth and talent to win. It may last for one or two more years. Then they will have to break it up.

The other problem when two guys make 70% of the cap is injuries. When you have two guys making $100M collectively, an injury to one of them is devastating, as the Celtics have discovered. When you have 5 guys collectively making $100M, you can survive an injury to one of them. It's like diversifying your portfolio.

So now we're talking about wasting two years of Jaylen Brown's prime — and maybe a season and a half of Tatum's — just to reset the tax? I'm fine with next year being a bridge year, but two years of a "bridge" Celtics team just for future flexibility? That’s a tough sell. These guys are in their primes. We can’t afford to waste that time sitting around, hoping the roster might improve down the line.

If Brown were as good as Tatum, I might agree with you. But he isn't. And Tatum, as good as he is, isn't LeBron. He plays too slowly. Walk it up, jack a trey. That's not winning basketball, and "my turn, your turn" isn't winning basketball either.

Yep, losing basketball. Go get Sabonis.

Sabonis at $25M would be a bargain, just like Derrick White is a bargain. But Sabonis is now overpaid just like other "stars."

To win with this CBA you need one star and 4-5 solid citizens making 20-30M per, plus one or two underpaid guys like Pritchard.
