That IQ contract is pretty bad unless he breaks out into a clear Maxey level star (doubt it)
That makes no sense.
Maxey's contract pays him an average of 40 mill per year, IQ 32.5. Maxey is getting paid more because he is better.
In the context of players outperforming their contract, if IQ was able to be a clear star level guard like Maxey, he would be an outperformer.
If he were making $40m, him playing like Maxey would be more of an expectation than a hope. Another example is I expect BI to be an all star level offensive wing given how much we’ve invested. Anything less is a disappointment, but him outperforming that and turning into Tatum or something would make him outperform what we’re paying him.
Makes it tough to move our guys when the time comes when none of them are on value contracts even if you like the player. Don’t really see winning teams that don’t at least have a Derrick White, or Wiggins, or Nembhard, or Caruso etc on the roster that is way more impactful than what they’re being paid
Just need IQ to stay healthy. If he can do that then his contract is fine. Nembhard is still on his rookie contract. Let’s hope our young players continue to develop and they’d be far more impactful than what they are being paid.
IQ is the 53rd highest player in the league. The Ringer just had their top 100 player list a couple months ago. Dray, Markkanen, Avidja, Norm, Daniels, Randle were in the 50s.
I think we can all agree that IQ is already better than a couple of those players and will jump ahead a few others with a good season.

Maybe your expectations are off?
Ingram will be the 37th highest paid guy next year and there are 24 all star spots. He can be an All Star level guy, but might not he just due to others...or team success.
Winning games changes perceptions. OG didn't change drastically when he went to NY. He just got more eyes on him.
Let's see how next year plays out considering we have not even seen what this group can be. We have the best depth we have had in 6 years and are still crazy young.

Houston and the Spurs would be best positioned for that in the west.
If he wants to remain in the East, I still dont see a better option than Toronto but I doubt Giannis would welcome anything here without Masai and knowing why he was fired by our racist owner.

We don’t have a need for Collins esp since CMB and Mogbo are gonna need mins at the PF position.
We could flip Collins for a smaller linger contract, and a pick, at the deadline.
But it's unlikely Utah does it, unless they really like RJ.

You guys know how many problems your gonna have with the way John Collins play basketball. If your not happy with RJ your gonna absolutely hate Collins. You'll go to sleep hating him. Barrett is a much better player not even close. These ridiculous RJ Barrett trade scenerio's gotta end.

We have a homegrown talent coming off an age 24 season where he averaged 20/5/5, doubled(!) his assist percentage, and made clear strides on defense.
Let’s trade him for Patrick Williams.

Now that all the interesting trade options are basically gone (except Giannis) we can all chill out and wait to see what the team looks like with all its pieces healthy (knock on wood) and trying hard.
I'd love for us RJ sceptics to be proven wrong.
I personally think his best role on this team is 6th man, but would be very pleased to see him warrant his current role.
We the North

RJ has a make it or break it year. I would have him as the x factor on our team. If he performs at a even higher level we will be a playoff team. IQ and Ingram are consistent high performers so I'm not as worried about them.
We have a fairly stacked starting line up if you look at it from a draft position POV.
Poeltl (9th)
Barnes (4th)
Ingram (2nd)
Barrett (3rd)
IQ (25th)
Then we have Gradey (13th) and CMB (9th).
Darko can't complain about not having high end talent. These guys are being viewed as overrated and they need to pull together and prove the media wrong.

I take totally opposite view-- RJ has been fine. Pressure is on Scottie and IQ to raise their game.

Ingram is one of the most talented players in the league. If we drafted a prospect as talented as Ingram was his rookie year this board would be buzzing. Weve got a chance to get him in his prime, he seems to really want it. This is the first time a team has seriously wanted Ingram to be their 1st option. LA was always going to trade him for a star. In New Orleans he took a back seat to Zion. This is a real chance to have one of the leagues elite players.

100% it is like folks didn't watch the games. Only 2 players stood out last season in RJ and Yak. Indeed all the pressure is on Scottie and IQ having both taken steps back.( and Darko)

This starting 5 is Much more talented that the Pacers that just went to the Finals but Darko had OG|Scottie |Pascal|Yak and couldn't make anything worked; and now the impact of Masai's departure though recent comments by former players should help

If he wants to remain in the East, I still dont see a better option than Toronto but I doubt Giannis would welcome anything here without Masai and knowing why he was fired by our racist owner.
The Giannis dream is dead. These two was family friends, that was the hope.

Hope we bring back Derozan. I know people will complain he is 35. But he is an Ironman and would be a great presence for Barnes, IQ and Ingram. If there is a way to get some draft capital in an RJ for Derozan swap I would consider it. I know everyone is about youth, but veteran presence is also valuable if it helps your team win and I still that culture. Love RJ, but the FT choking him and Barnes do at the end of games is painful to watch. This is where a guy like Derozan able to get the basketball and cleanly ice the game

Totally agree. Lucky that Roger’s doesn’t rebrand the team to the Toronto Plantations.

We're trying to escape mediocrity, not bask in it.
