No, they are not trying to ACTIVELY lose this year.
I believe (and the owners said much of this to us in person in their "plan")
this year is about working in the new guys, seeing where they need to add more talent, acquiring more players via the draft, maybe also a big trade at the deadline or more likely next summer , adding picks thru roster moves and smaller trades, changing the culture, getting stronger and learning how to play with a more consistent team of actual NBA players. Having a consistent rotation of dudes that plays together and builds chemistry.
This is a full 3 season planned rebuild and we are about 2/3 of the way through is the way I read it.
I am fine with being organically better and more entertaining next year. Smarter Passionate Healthy Players who work hard and are more productive is more easy to be a fan of then the garbage g leaguers, lazy guys, and the "needs a day off" crew.
I'm guessing 32-42 wins unless we make a surprise huge deal now or at the deadline if we are better than expected at that point. Here's to hoping.....
as frustrated as i get, i agree with this. the new front office are doing what they said they would do, building their team.
its also easy to get frustrated with why didn't we just sign this guy? there needs to be interest from those guys as well. it feels like Charlotte are always struggling to sign the big names. From memory out best gets are when we paid injured Hayward the max when no one else would and signed big Al to a contract no one else would.

no spending in free agency because we are cheep...
trades are used to add 2nd round picks...
draft picks are used to sell false hope to the fan base...

Our free agent signing was Sexton.
And maybe whoever we consolidate our guards on.

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
Attempt at a 9-man rotation.
Melo - Mann
Kon - Sexton
Miller - Green
Miles - Grant
Diabate
McNeeley, Kalk, Sion, KJ, and TJ are with the Swarm. Kalk and Plum will play backup C (or maybe start) when needed, otherwise Grant will be a smallball C. Pat is a depth player/vet that warms the bench.
Baugh, NSJ, Okogie, DaQuan are cut/traded/sent to the G-league too.
The notable issues is a severe lack of size and defense. Diabate is the only player in our rotation who is a good defender, depending on how Grant's knee is.

Who were we going to sign?
Kennard signed 1 year 11 million with atl
Capella 3 yr 21.5 mil
Ty Jerome 3 yr 28 mil
Santi Aldami 3 yr 52 mil
Miles Turner 4 years 107 mil
Tim Hardaway Jr vet min 1 yr
These are the type of moves teams make when they are trying to win games.. not just 2nd round picks...

Besides Capella and Turner, all of those guys would be backups here and not significantly better than what we already have.
Like I said above, Sexton was our free agent signing. We just traded for him.

This is about spot on. I don’t think Kon starts right off though.

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
There might be a lot of 140-135 type scoring games but that's ok. Hopefully they establish an identity on at least one end of the court. The Pacers rep was as an all offense/no defense team until they were able to pull themselves together this year to play passable defense due to effort and a few smart moves by their FO.

Seriously, why does Moose rate as a starter among that group? I know he played some there last year and had flashes in certain games. But he was manhandled by stronger bigger 5’s with impunity. He also can’t shoot. Without a big trade to get a true starter, I’d almost invert your C order; Plumber, Kalk&Hammer then Moose.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

stronger 5s manhandle Plum as well, they will have to double. Moose was our best defender and rebounder last year.

i still hope there is another move coming. still want to use a combo of sexton/NSj/Green/Conn with our less valuable picks to upgrade at centre

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
It's possible that we will rotate centers based on matchups. Otherwise what is the point of giving Mason big minutes? He's 35. He's never gonna get any better and he's gonna be worse than he was three years ago. We've already seen what several years of Mason is our center looks like. Moose is young and has the potential to get better. He'll be the best defensive center of the three right out of the gate, Both at the rim and on the perimeter, at least until kalk Gets up to speed, Which might take a year or never. Despite being undersized moose doesn't get pushed around. That **** is strong. Statistically he was our best center last year and played 71 games. He had a best net rating of all of our centers last year.
I can still see a scenario where Mason starts just to soak up some fouls and to play a little more five out with the starters using his dribble handoffs and passing a little bit to clear out the metal.
But I feel pretty confident that Moose will be the best of the three next year. And when Grant is healthy he's probably the one that closes out games unless we are just getting manhandled down low.
At least by giving moose big minutes there is a chance that he develops as a player.
as much as I like 75% of the moves we've made so far this summer, center excluded, This team is still not a playoff team unless everything really breaks right. So you might as well let the younger guys get the minutes.

Rockets arguably have too many 3/4s and not enough guards with good ballhandling (could be a major weakness vs OKC) I wonder if we could pick off Whitmore for someone

Cole Anthony could be bought out, is very available, i think i would prefer him as our backup point guard, or am I wrong?
seems like a better defender.
the shine has gone off Sexton, im ready to move him

Milwaukee thinking they can win the championship with 22.5 million of dead money every year for 5 years is asinine, they are basically a SGA or Luka away still
They are like a shopping addict that found a way to con a bank into giving them another credit card to max out. They are royally screwed and I bet it all ends in tears next offseason now.
Giannis might stay this season, but the house of cards they've built will crumble sooner rather than later.
