You can't e-sign a 125 million dollar contract?
Is this what kids wear to sign $125M contracts these days? Pajamas?

It's 100% going to be over 25 in my opinion.
My guess is, it will be over 30 million if it ends up being a 2 year contract. Just so he can prove that he is worth more, and keep it at the number he wants, and the Bulls can evaluate him for that time before making a long term decision.
If he wants a longer contract now, I say it will fall between 26-28 for 5 years.
I'm fine with either option to be honest, but would be a win win for the Bulls and Josh, so I think this is how it plays out.
Why so serious?

I don’t think there’s any chance he signs a 2-year deal. I’d be surprised if it’s anything less than 5 years with an option year in the final year.

I don't know, if he were to bet on himself, with the market being limited this off season. It's not like he is in his late 20's or even 30's, where this is his last big contract. Even if he were to sign a 2 year contract, he'd still only be 25, where he could set himself up to sign 2 additional long contracts in his prime.
Why so serious?

In the “bet on himself” event, I think it’s more likely he’d just take the QO and hit FA next year. I also doubt the Bulls even want to offer him a 2-year deal. They’ll want him locked up long-term.

I agree. It's definitely going to be a 4 year deal or a 5 year deal with a PO. I'm hoping the 5 year with PO keeps him at $25M AAV.

I'd like the deal to either be a flat rate or descending in salary.
It won't be, but I think that would be good.

So you lose $6M for 1 year, and he can easily get $35M+ per year for multiple years in a true free market. Let's keep in Scottie Barnes makes $46M per year while being older and Brandon Ingram makes $40M while playing 18 games in a season and will be 28. If teams thought these were good deals, they'll love a 20/11/9 guy on $35M. CJ McCollum got $33M in a much lower cap scenario and he's 33.
After just 1 year of the new contract, he's +$15M over a $20M offer from Chicago. Over 4 years, that's $60M.
The $6M he loses by taking a MLE is trivial in the long run.
Even $30M is John Collins, Jerami Grant, Miles Bridges money and borderline insulting. At $25M you're telling him he's worth the same Kuzma.
$30 mill is completely fair. Lowballing your stars to save a few mill isn't winning basketball. Came out Myles Turner would have accepted $25 mill form Pacers. They wouldn't move from $22 mill because "no one has cap space" until the Bucks MADE cap space. Offered him more than the $25 mill, plus a player option and trade kicker. To save $3 mill/yr, Pacers lost Turner. He didn't want to leave. Right after going to the Finals.
Don't think he can just take MLE from another team. He signed the QO, Bulls have the right to match any contract. What team is going to waste time offering a contract the Bulls 100% match? He can just play on the QO at 11 mill if he wants to be an unrestricted free agent. We lowball him enough, he might.
Kuminga's looking for $30 mill, lol. Compare Giddey's career to Kuminga's.

I wonder what the bid-ask is at this point? I'm guessing it's something like Bulls $22M Giddey $28M per.

I would guess Bulls want 25 and Giddey wants a max

Well, that’s cryptic. “Time is running out?” I guess he is threatening to take the QO? Or just that this is dragging?
Sigh. Shades of when GarPax re-signed LaVine the first time. At the same time, that was the right move then.
I do believe in Giddey, btw. I think the shot, while unlikely to stay at the blistering percentages of the end of last year, will likely stay at an average to above average level on good volume. And his defense improved a ton when things were shifted so that his primary coverage was generally on forwards (usually the SF, sometimes the 4, much less often the 2). I think that there was also scheme buy-in.

There has been zero reporting or indication from anywhere that Giddey is asking for the Max. I don’t think he or his agent are that deluded. That would just result in the QO, which leaves legacy money on the table.

Indiana offered even less, reportedly 20M/per. That's what he was already making. So, they low balled him hard. Turner's not an irreplaceable player, but it's completely understandable why he left with that information and reflects poorly on Indiana.

While I would be very happy to get the deal done quickly, I guess I'd be happier if, all else being equal, we're able to have an extra $5-$7M to spend a year.

Re: Josh Giddey Thread 2.0
What number did Giddey want - 30M/yr?
That's not a number that any team can realistically sign him to, so the Bulls can probably offer 20M per and it's already an overpay from the team standpoint. We can let the market set the number and have him get an offer sheet from somewhere, but again, it's not gonna be anywhere close to what he'd want. I think he'll have to settle for less, or take the QO and bet on himself.
