What a useless lump of Celtics media. It took Noa butting in after the supposed last question had been asked to ask him about playing in SL.

Ok, here's the plan. We got garza to fool the other teams. They announce garza
is entering the game but it will really be Hugo, the resemblance is spooky. The other team will guard him with their stiff big man and Hugo will blow by him and go for 30. See what number Garza picks if it's 82, its' on!

Only in that it looks like Garza could be Hugo's dad.

Gonzalez could be a good player, at the end of the 1st if you get a starter, that's gold. I think his 3pt shooting struggles wont last long, watched videos of him and his form looks pretty good to me.
Good assessment:

NikNBA noted this guy gets dusted off the dribble with some frequency and I have to say there were some obvious instances in video samples of what he was talking about.

*If* this is true the nicknames will come fast and furious.

I look at last year's rookie Matas Buzelis who came into the draft with a huge question mark on his shooting (27% on 3 for Ignite) but had a little bit of everything else (offball skills, defense, cutting, high motor). I wonder if Hugo can follow the same trajectory. Of course, we'll need Joe to trust him with consistent minutes.

That's a bit of a different scenario since Buzelis shot like 40% from 3 and 80% from FT line during the season before that in HS. Hugo has never shot close to that well from 3.

Also, the Ignite season when Buzelis shot poorly from 3, he was shooting from the NBA 3 pt line that G league uses which is deeper than what NCAA and overseas pro leagues use..also he was bothered by an ankle injury.

There is hope Hugo can improve as a shooter but it'll be a but different than it was for Buzelis. Huge is a better defensive prospect, though..

Last season there were 9 guys who played 60+ games and had 14 minutes per game (Tatum/Brown/White/Holiday/Pritchard/Hirfird/Hauser/Kornet/Queta). Then a 10th guy (Porzingis) played in 42. So I think fair to project that Mazulla can and will use a regular 10 man rotation. Tatum (36.4 minutes/game, 72 games), Holiday (30.6, 62), Porzingis (28.8, 42), Horford (27.7, 60), and Kornet (18.6, 72) are all gone right now (or project to be - still waiting on Horford).

I'd say right now we have 7 guys who are clear, locked and loaded NBA rotation players: Brown, White, Simons, Pritchard, Hauser, Queta, Niang. Still 3 spots open. You probably have to isolate the C position on its own, as well. Queta a sure fire rotation player right now and Tillman/Garza will combine for the rest of the minutes there. If none are really good enough to play a lot then maybe even you stretch it to 11 man rotation to play all 3.

The way I look at it is that there's 2 rotation spots left to earn on the "perimeter positions" of PG/SG/SF/PF. Right now, the group competing for those minutes are Scheierman, Gonzalez, Davison, Walsh, Minott. It seems like 99% sure Scheierman would be one of those spots. So process of elimination and right now, I'd say Gonzalez is competing with Davison/Walsh/Minott for probably a 15 minute/game role. One of those guys likely gone as well, since we have to move at least one guy to get back below the 2nd apron (or if it's not one of these guys it's someone from the first group of players which obviously opens up another spot for this group)

I believe in guys having opportunity for playing time but still needing to earn it. Look, Davison/Walsh/Minott is not a murderer's row of competition. if he can't beat out that group for playing time, he probably just isn't ready for it yet.

I hope they manage to dump Simons somewhere and consider Scheierman pretty much a lock for the rotation. I take it JD will start the year in the rotation and think Hugo's D gets him a slot in there too. And then a 2nd center is in there with Queta.

Yep, same. No point in Simons keeping us over the tax and taking time from developing our long term young guys. Let's see what Baylor esp, but also JD, Hugo, Walsh and Minott have to offer.

If they see Simons as a long term piece they can afford, then sure, but it's kind of one of those things if he does well enough to keep, our finances won't allow it. If he's cheap enough to keep, then he's probably not good enough to.

True.

But if he's good enough to keep, maybe we sign him to like $20mil a season, maybe $25mil, tops..that could be doable, if everyone else on our team (outside of the Jays and white) are making under $10mil a year and everyone else is just on rookie contracts for minimum contracts except for Pritchard and a starting C (under $10mil a year)

Especially if White getting up there in age causes him to be less effective as a scorer and both the Jays coming off surgery, they might need more rest days and we might want to lessen their offensive load a bit, so having that young, offensive weapon like Simons could prove to be super valuable long term for us to continue to be a contender.

Also, if we're thinking Simons will be so good in green that we'll have to pay way more for him next summer, we could extend him this summer to a lower number..

Not to sidetrack the Hugo thread though :)
