Yeah, I’d rather get the first for PJ than what I was suggesting (stacking Naji, Martin, Hardy, Powell) and having to sign 2-3 zero year guys..
I think Det is good enough to send it with that protection, but Dallas should let them put a more friendly protection on it as long as it rolls over.
Sac should just pay the first instead and get PJ next to Sabonis though in my opinion.

Re: Detroit - Dallas - Sacramento
Don’t think this marginal upgrade and marginal depth is worth our first next year.
Both Tobias and PJ are expiring, and while PJ is 12 mil cheaper this year, I imagine they get similar contracts thereafter, and Harris is more likely to stay if there’s a mutual interest. Martin and Powell are depth, but not appealing depth, really, and those additional years on Caleb are not wanted.
Don’t think I’d want this even without the pick downgrade, and I like PJ. Tobias is still super solid.

Yeah I'm simply failing to see what here is worth a first round pick.
Easy pass.

Needs much better protection to make this a discussion. I think Sac has to pay more too.

Why does Harris equal those things? He's actually been pretty solid for us.
And I think we'll agree to disagree on an expiring PJ Washington being worth a first.

That’s severely underestimating Tobias. Those two pieces are not worth their salary. Tobias is not negative.

i think martin is worth his salary. His deal was considered less than market value last year

I think Harris is worth more than Martin/Powell/CHA 2nd too. Maybe Martin bounces back and proves he's worth his contract, but he needs to do that imo. Not sure Harris is worth his contract either though.
And while I agree with jayjaysee that Detroit should get stronger protections, I think PJ even for one year should still return a protected 1st. If he hadn't had that playoff performance in 24 I'd be skeptical myself, but playing 36 mpg on a Finals team, defending the best player every night, doing enough offensively to stay on the court, and swinging a series against OKC feels like enough for a team to want to rent him/get Bird Rights.

I think the evaluation is fair, but the Pistons need the secondary offensive hub provided by Harris more than they need a catch and shoot guy. In a vacuum, I prefer PJ, but not on the Pistons roster.

Re: Detroit - Dallas - Sacramento
Caleb Martin got paid for a truly impressive playoff run in Miami a couple years back and has regressed (and been moved twice) since. Committing to three years of him at around 30 mil total is not something I’d consider positive value.
He’s not a bad player at all, but this isn’t something Detroit would be willing to use a first on. Tobias Harris is still a good player. He’s slowly taking a smaller role with slightly less minutes as he ages, but he’s solid in literally every way — outside shooting, post fades, rebounding, passing, defense, no weaknesses. He’s also the senior member of the Pistons and a great Unc for the young guys.
Just don’t see this happening. In fact, I hope Tobias re-signs after this year at a lower number and either starts one more year, or, if we get a suitable starter, transitions into a key sub role. Would gladly give him another 2/30 after this year.
EDIT: I’d love to get PJ, by the way. But not for Harris, a 1st, and two contracts the Pistons don’t want. Just the 1st, and with bigger protection…. which would also require further salary juggling, because we don’t have the 14 mil to spend.

Re: Detroit - Dallas - Sacramento
Yeah I really want PJ, but that cost is steep. Giving up Harris in the deal, negates PJ coming in, as the team would still lack depth at the PF position. Unlike seemingly most other Piston fans, I don't care about the 1st though. The Pistons are going to have to start paying all of their prior picks soon, really soon, and adding more guaranteed contracts is not gonna happen.
If there's another deal that can happen, without adding Harris, I'd be down with it. I also don't want to eat the Martin contract, but if it lands the team PJ, what the hell.
Cade/LeVert
Ivey/Robinson
Ausar/Holland
PJ/Harris
Duren/Stewart
Is a hell of a starting 5, and bench group, if the team can keep Harris. Powell is not an NBA player anymore at this stage. I've watched almost all of the Mavs games over the past several years, and his decline is just about final.

This the quandary. Now if Langdon had signed Laravia, then I'd do it, no problem.Godaddycurse wrote:zeebneeb wrote:Yeah I really want PJ, but that cost is steep.
