It is time for Al to move on. Does he even have 1 good year left? Maybe. But unlikely he has 2. It is more important for the team to get where it needs financially so they can target the next elite big man needed to contend. This season is going to be like the Mark Blount years for Paul Pierce. Having 3 good scoring wings like Brown/White/Simons doesn’t mean jack in the NBA when you don’t have a dude in the paint. Tatum fixes a lot of things but we still need a reliable rim protector when he returns. Can’t let sentimentality get in the way. Better for Al to get one more shot.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

We'd be $11,510,484 over the tax line with 18 players under contract after this deal.
Pay 2nds to dump 5 guys - Martin/Svi/Springer/Tillman/Walsh - and you go to $7,306,936 under the tax with 13 players. Would Horford come back for $7M into that open 14th spot?
Pritchard
White / Scheirman / Gonzalez
Brown / Hauser
Horford / Niang
Kessler / Queta
I think that's still a play in team in the East. They can extend Kessler under the tax long term. Next year Tatum is back.
My guess for the "picks" for Kessler would be our 2026 pick top 4 protected and then unprotected in 2027 if it doesn't convey. Plus a 2030 pick swap. That's my projected offer.
Hield/Moody for Simons/Walsh/whatever.
If Al is leaving he can sign there.
I think that's the best value out there to get out of the tax with moving one of Niang/Hield or both.
Hield/Moody for SImons hard caps GSW at 1st apron. They're currently like $25M below that, but Kuminga's cap hold is $22.9M. Your deal takes on enough salary that they'd have to waive Kuminga's cap hold to stay under their hard cap.
Not exactly sure what's happening with him, but at least right now it seems like they won't do that. They'd have to figure something out with him first of a S&T that returns back less enough salary.
I also don't think they'd wan tto be hard capped at that apron in season anyway.
What about that deal hard caps them at the first apron - aggregating is a second apron issue or no?

Cavs are better
Orlando is better
Knicks are better
Hawks are better
Raptors are better
Pistons are maybe better with their continued growth depending on how they deal with the beasley situation
Philly if Embiid is healthy is better
Raptors no. But definitely the others. Tatum comes back and we are the best

I hear what you are saying but Horford was the Celtics best big last year and it wasn’t even close

Swear if LBJ comes back east it will solidify him shipping to easier places to win every time. Left Cavs for easier road, left Miami when Cavs got ky (celts no longer a challenge, he thought) and Miami had issues, left for LA when he thought the East was about to kill it (Celtics), now that OKC and other West teams are stacking up he wants to come back East when everybody believes it’s at its weakest. He thought he had a chance when they picked up Luka but now he knows it’s a bloodbath to chip in the west. He hates the tough road.
I think he’d go to the Cavs and paint it as wanting to retire at home.
All speculation and could be me hating, wouldn’t put it past me. It just feels like he wants no parts if it’s not as easy as he can get it.

BOS gives: Simons, pick(s)
BOS gets: Walker Kessler, KJ Martin, Svi Mykhailuk, Jaden Springer
UTA gives: Collin Sexton, Walker Kessler, KJ Martin, Svi Mykhailuk, Jaden Springer, 2nd rounder
UTA gets: Simons, Nurkic, BOS pick(s)
CHA gives: Nurkic
CHA gets: Sexton, UTA 2nd rounder
We get a C of the future with a low salary for this year that we can afford to extend next year while still remaining below the tax. We save $8.7M in salary this year on the deal, but really more because of the roster spots. We'd be up to 18 NBA contract players and we only need 14. Pay 2nd rounders to dump KJ Martin, Tillman, Svi and we'd be real close to ducking the tax and able to get there with midyear moves.
Very plausible deal given Utah's recent moves and Boston's desire to pay less luxury tax. Are Martin and Svi still non-guaranteed for 2025-2026?
I think they became guaranteed. Either way, for the trade to work matching wise they have to be guaranteed. You can't do the old loophole of using non guaranteed salary to match and then waiving.
Issue is that apparently Sexton/Nurkic deal already happened so can't be folded into this. Simons for Kessler/Martin/Svi/Springer doesn't work for Utah salary matching. Needs one more player but they don't have any guys under contract that aren't recent 1sts that they'd place value on. So deal kind of falls apart as a Simons for Kessler idea.
Ah. I'm wondering what Utah would want for Collins and Kessler.

That would be a nice haul for Simons. I like Moody as someone to stick around as a good backup wing for 2026-27. And Buddy can get hot and be that guy to come in for instant buckets.
Not sure why GS does this though. I guess the argument that Simons is the best player in the deal, which is debateable.

I would keep Simons and Hauser and move Niang if I had a choice. Simons intrigues me with his offense and to see what he could do on a good team. Could be Stevens next Derrick White. If not, then the Celtics got a one year look.

Simons is intriguing, but I'd move him for a good man considering they have Pritchard at a much lower cost.

There's no way we can afford him in 26-27. Not unless you're moving White.

I want LeBron out of LA. Then Luka can leave. Then they can sign Jimmy Butler and Damian Lillard next year to try and make up for it. Run that franchise into the ground.

Luka's gonna sign whatever max LA can give, Joker's gonna opt out after next season and it's gonna be the Luka and Joker show in LA.
LA always gets their big man even if he'll be 32

LeBron for Giannis would have already happened except that the Lakers don't have any picks to throw in.

Al should be playing backup center. Problem is we used him as our primary big for most of the season. If managed and used properly, he absolutely has 2 years left.
The problem isn’t Al, the problem is that we need a legit starting center and Al just isn’t the answer there.
I don’t see how we can keep him if other teams offer more money and he wants to maximize his market value.

Don’t honestly care what Lebron does. If I’m wrong and he wins another title I’ll move him up my own pantheon rankings, but I don’t see it happening.

I would give Al 2 years, $20m and leave him home on any back to backs or road trips until March.

I'd rather have both. To win a title you need a legit 3rd option who can get you a consistent 16-20 PPG and a legit 4th option who can get you a consistent 15-18 PPG.
I don't know if Pritchard can fill that role. But white and Simons have already proven they can do it.
I'd rather move Hauser or Niang..guys who are more easily replaceable..and they are a bit redundant having them both on the team. Niang is on a cheaper contract and Hauser has more trade value so I'd move Hauser (plus maybe some draft capital) for a big..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Taking back more salary in a trade then you send out.
