Is that the first mention of MY GUY Torrey Craig in this whole thread?

Looks like he got Minott’d

Gallows humor, my friend.

I wanted them to say F the second apron, keep everyone, and hope JT healed in record time.

As a Celtic fan, if I bought the Celtics and said we’ll pay whatever it takes to try to win titles, that’s what I would’ve done.

Instead, Brad obviously got an index card from the new owners saying “under the tax” — and so here we are learning about all sorts of end of bench guys.

Simons is intriguing, but I'd move him for a good man considering they have Pritchard at a much lower cost.

There's no way we can afford him in 26-27. Not unless you're moving White.

One thing that is possibly being discussed right now is discussions with Simons to see how much he'd be willing to sign for on an extension and if we can meet somewhere in the middle so we're not spending too much while at the same time, it's an offer that Simons would be ok with..

Or Brad has it set in his mind he's not extending him..he's either trading him now or letting him play out this season as a "prove it year" and then have that negotiation discuss with him next summer..

The math doesn't work at any plausible salary for him. You can have White or Simons. You can't have both.

His archetype is getting devalued pretty heavily now. I think MLE is gonna be Simons' salary ceiling.

In 26-27, we're already at ~$153M for Tatum, Brown, Pritch and White. You want to spend $14M on another perimeter player (who can't defend)?

I also think PP + Simons makes the backcourt too small and vulnerable defensively.

I cannot see any plausible path forward with this guy.

I'd rather have both. To win a title you need a legit 3rd option who can get you a consistent 16-20 PPG and a legit 4th option who can get you a consistent 15-18 PPG.

I don't know if Pritchard can fill that role. But white and Simons have already proven they can do it.

I'd rather move Hauser or Niang..guys who are more easily replaceable..and they are a bit redundant having them both on the team. Niang is on a cheaper contract and Hauser has more trade value so I'd move Hauser (plus maybe some draft capital) for a big..

I doubt Hauser can net them a decent big man, but yes, he's more easily replaceable.

"Another perimeter player"

2 of the guys you named are our starting forwards. Tatum is our PF.

Pritchard was a good defender last season. He plays bigger than his listed height, as a result of his toughness, strength and how good of a rebounder he is - one of the better rebounding guards in the league - especially on the offensive glass.

Let's see how Simons defends when he's actually on a real team with real coaching and a real defensive system - one with good defenders who can cover up any mistakes he makes. And where he'd be the 3rd/4th option so therefore he's having to exert less energy on offense (he was 1st/2nd option in Portland) so now with less of a demanding role on offense, he can have more energy when playing D. He's got a 6'9" wingspan and is very quick..so he does have the tools to be a decent defender.

Bottom line, to win a title you need a superstar (Tatum, check), another star (JB, check) and a solid, reliable 3rd and 4th scoring option (we've got white for 1 of them. Simons would give us the other. Pritchard is unproven in such a big role..he's only been a 6th man and he's struggled a bit in the playoffs throughout his career).

According to Chat GPT, it's not likely. But it *is* possible, if "Boston makes additional cost-cutting moves".

I hate to break it to you but Tatum and Brown are perimeter players.

Anyway, I think this is all wishcasting. Simons is gone unless they move on from White.

Are you looking at it from an offense perspective? Sure, I agree they are all perimeter guys from that perspective, but who isn’t in the modern NBA? Porzingis and Horford are perimeter players as well then.

I think Hal was speaking from a defensive standpoint which is more important. Tatum gets us 9-10 rebounds a game pretty consistently and guards centers on occasion. White, Brown, and Tatum all guard ‘up’. Definitely do not consider Tatum to be a perimeter guy on defense.

I would love to have a guy who can mix it up in the paint, but there’s not really a lot of options for that anyway. Simons drives to the hoop a lot which is something our other guards don’t do that often. That might separate him enough honestly.

Sure it is, unless you think we're ducking the tax this and next year, then probably not. 2nd apron will be something like $222M, so plenty of room for an MLE salary. I agree that I don't want it to be him at all, though.
