Were they looking into him if Yabu didn’t sign?
I’d love Ben here on a cheap deal but not sure it’s possible

I smell a trade in the works to shed some salary...

Quite posssssssible....announced on July 4th?

All they have to do is ask Yabu to take less money than the full TPMLE. They are 36k short of another vet mini. Aller can work his magic and we can see what they wanna do. If they are still pursuing vet mini players, it means McC is not getting a deal and they are going to ask Yabusele to take a little. Less. Depending on how low Yabu was willing to go, technically they could free up two vet mini deals. 3.53mil vs 4.5 mil give or take. I could be doing the math wrong but, I don't think so. Yabusele signs for 500k less per year. Big hit though. 36k is not much at all.

This is a good team only with a center like Mitchell Robinson.

Something really STRANGE I heard this morning from Ian Begley... he mentioned almost in passing that Lebron MIGHT GET BOUGHT OUT. He didn't expound at all

If LeBron just came here as a FA they are winning a championship next year unless they are unhealthy. Hell they might win a championship next year too

I also believe this might be the outcome or possibly trade away Mikal.. this all depends on contract extensions.

Mitch might be asking close to Poetl's money which is 20m per year.

So there isn't any chance he would come as a Minimum level player?

The Knicks are hard capped now after using the tax payer mid level on Yabu. They can only afford to sign a 1 year experience vet min (McCullar) and use the 2nd round pick exemption (Diawara). There would 100% have to be a trade for it to work.

Did they officially sign Yabu or is this an order of operations situation where they can officially sign people in a certain order that is still counts. Also how many people are on the roster? You can always go over the "hard cap" to meet the player minimum on the roster.

Nothing has been signed yet. Once you hear official statement from the Knicks then it becomes official. Both sides has pretty much agreed to the framework. Gab's agent and Knicks FO will probably ask them to decrease the contract by 150k (then somehow James Dolan will buy him a car wash in France).

Baseless Buzztrodamus speculation:

One of the "Free Agents" waiting on Knicks coaching decision was LeBron waiting on Brown to be hired.

Actually, it was probably Yabu and Clarkson and Knicks told them it was Brown a few days ago, but announced the hiring today.

I feel like with the Every Second Sports Announcements 24/7, that things get reported out of order.

We don’t know, but Lebron was cool with Brown and there really does seem to be some acrimony between Lebron and the Lakers since the Lakers are now apparently fully focused on building around Luka.

Even the lakers saying they see him as an expiring contract is really passive aggressive for them.

I don't see Lebron and Rich Paul sticking it out on the Lakers another season. They're Luka's team now and they're going to build around Luka, rightfully so.

They'll look for Lebron trades on the market but I doubt they'll find anything substantial to any team he'd be willing to play for. That's when they'll start buy out talks so he can choose his new and possibly final destination. If he wins a 5th title in Cleveland or NY, I think many more folks will call him the GOAT. He knows that. Riding off into the sunset on top... can't beat that.

Lakers better not buy him out!

He already got them a title, the most LeBron narrative imaginable is to help NYC get the first title in 50 years. It puts a stamp on his career that winning another in Cleveland wouldn't do.

That's the narrative that makes the most sense.

He already won with:
Miami Heat (2012, 2013), the Cleveland Cavaliers (2016), and the Los Angeles Lakers (2020)

No, no NBA player has ever won a championship with four different teams. While several players have won championships with three different teams, such as Robert Horry, John Salley, LeBron James, and Danny Green, the feat of winning with four different teams remains unaccomplished in the NBA

If he came here to win a championship (for his own legacy), the win would be soiled IMO.

It would be like the year Durant couldn't beat Golden State, so he joined them! :banghead:
