Which likely means he builds around what he has.

Yes, he does.

I'm not sure why anyone would be so opposed to the hire. His job isn't to reinvent the wheel. It's to basically figure out how to get KAT shooting 7+ 3s a game while not getting shived on defense.

I think there are quite a few obvious avenues to do that, which is why so many people were frustrated with Thibs.

I hated how in the beginning of the season we had Kat above the break and he was passing all over the place then after like 20 games. Thibs was like nah you ain't reading and reacting right and we went away from that. No plays for Kat to hit 3s as well smh. KP taking like a minimum of like 5 3s a game meanwhile Kat was taking 3

I think that is why they are desperately trying to find an associate HC to run the offense...because that isn't something Mike Brown is known for.

I think Mike Brown knows what a 1/5 PnR is

I mean is he going to have KAT learn how to set an actual screen now? Also he needs to combat teams putting a small on KAT take away that P&R.

There is a reason they want an offensive guru next to him. Jordi Fernandez got a HC gig because of the impact he had on those Kings teams...that doesn't mean Mike Brown isn't good...he just isn't an offensive coach.

What's the over-under on games before the first 'Fire Brown' thread on realgm?

The way Begley worded his statement on Borrego, I think we'll get him.

I'm not worried about putting a staff together. But even the most futuristic offensive mind isn't going to get around KAT's unwillingness to screen.

I thought Brown was proponent of Princeton offensive principles.

I'm all kinds of confused now.

Brown was the new Thibs when he hit the scene. A defensive Wizard fresh off the Pop tree.

After his second stint in Cleveland, he went to GSW to learn more about the modern offense.

he tried to implement the princeton offense with the nash, kobe and dwight teams and the front office decided it didnt work and fired him 5 games in. But he was known as a defense guy with those Cavs teams

It's his foundation, but he got his start for being a big time defensive mind with SA and they weren't running Princeton offense with LeBron and Kobe... Not a chance.

Yeah. I still remember him in Cleveland, looking confused as his assistant drew up the last minute play. He’s a defensive coach.

Which is perfectly fine...that is why we need to target a big time offensive mind. Because Mike Brown is a good leader...he just isn't someone that is going to draw up big time plays and schemes on offense.

The fact Mike Brown is understanding and realizes his strengths/weaknesses is a really good sign. Thibs didn't do that...does anyone thing Thibs would have been cool with a Borrego as an associate HC? He wasn't relinquishing any type of coaching duties...he knew one way to coach his way. He basically had a bunch of yes man assistants...only time he has was when the FO pushed Johnnie Bryant on him.

Maybe he gets Karl to stop doing dumb sh*t. Maybe not. But he gets a clean slate from me starting now.

I'm willing to go along with this, up to a point.

What is that point? It's the point where, when he's asked in a post-game interview, "Why did you play it that way?" He answers, "Because it's how Thibs would have wanted it."

false...why would they hire a guy for his offense only to want to get Borrego who is a offensive mind as the associate HC. Not rocket science.

connect the dots.

We want Borrego because Brown said its important to have him on staff, according to Begley.

Why would the Knicks FO, the most successful FO we've had in a quarter century, think Brown is an offensive wiz if Brown himself doesn't think so?

Shams is just editorializing here, not reporting.

So this is the coach we’ll win a chip with. Nice. I support the move. If healthy, and with proper strategy, we’re well equipped to get the job done. Lets go!
