Re: Schroder's gone
Still a move to be made, I would go after John Collins. We could turn Schroeder deal into a sign and trade with the Jazz. I would be willing to give you Sasser for Collins. I honestly think Sasser has a lot of potential, but we need more rebounders that can stretch the floor badly. Be got beat on the glass bad in the Knicks series, part of it was that Stew went down but we still need more.

Now how would we pull that off? He makes $26million

I never knew that about or ecen knew about the expanded TPE. Fantastic!
And that means Reed and Levert fit into our $19mil cap space perfectly. It all makes sense now, thanks
Happy to help! Ask anytime; I love cap stuff. So now we can use around $8mil from our Room exception to target 1 player or we can break it up into 2 players even.
BackupPF and basically a vet mentor type for a 3rd string PG being our main needs.
Unlike the NTP-MLE and the TP-MLE, the Room MLE can't be split; it can be used on only one player.
It's still possible (I've got no idea at the likelihood) that the Pistons pay the Kings a pittance to make the Schroder deal into S&T to earn a $14m TPE, which would establish them as an over-the-cap team and remove access to Room MLE. But that's all theoretical at this point; and it would mean sacrificing the Room MLE, which can almost certainly be used, for a TPE, which requires an opportunity (to take on a player making $14m or less, in this case) and could easily go unused if no such opportunity presents itself.
Can that TPE be combined with Tobias +Sasser for Markkanen by any chance? Lol

I was pondering this last night. I tried to use trade machines, but Spotrac and ESPN already have players announced in trades on their new respective teams. I was thinking something along the lines of this framework:
Detroit
out - Sign & trade Dennis Schroder, Bobby Klintman, Marcus Sasser
In - Collins
Utah
out - Collins
in - Klintman & Malik Monk
Sacramento
out - Malik Monk
in - Dennis Schroder & Marcus Sasser
Don't know if this is legal, or if some second rounders need to be moved around in any direction?

Re: Schroder's gone
Collins would be a nice pick up...22/10 per 36 last year and 40% from deep. Guy can jump to the ceiling and would get a lot of dunks playing with Cade.

Only way we get Collins is in a 3-way with Sacramento as part of the Schroeder deal.
Sacto gets Schroeder and maybe a 2nd from us?
We get Collins
Utah gets Monk?

Wild Ku was right.
Props to him…People hating on his credentials and calling him just a podcaster…I dont listen to him but respect for leaking the dream is still alive.
Nice to know we getting at least SOMETHING for the loss of Schroder…all you Monk haters may need to buckle up (95% of this board).
Can’t tell if the John Collins stuff is wishful thinking on our part or if Utah had actually been leaked as a potential 3rd team.

The truth is, letting him walk for nothing never made a lot of sense. Even if we have to give up a distant future second rounder to make it a sign and trade .... that $14 million trade exception is more likely to be beneficial to us than a distant future 2nd. We very likely could use that trade exception to get an expiring rotation player for a playoff run, and maybe even a pick or two if a team is looking to shed salary to get out from the luxury tax.
I think Sacramento was just trying to strongarm us into giving up assets to get Monk when in reality Monk makes a lot and really if you're going to trade for Monk you have to be ok giving guys like Duren and Ivey $25+ million as starters next summer if you bring Monk of the bench at $20+.

Actually, Malik Monk, Cade Cunningham, and John Collins all share the same agent... Jeff Schwartz who has like 20-25 NBA players under contract.

Sac, Det, and Dallas might work with P.J. coming to the Pistons and Monk to Dallas? PJ would be an expiring contract.

Exceptions cannot be combined with other exceptions or with salaries.

I feel like people are not taking into account that it's not easy to just mash another big-minute player into a rotation that's already full.

Or maybe we get as many good players/assets as we can and worry about the minutes distribution later.

I do like the idea of only Cade playing 30+ MPG on average to keep guys fresh and also keep old man Tobias more likely to be ready for a playoff run. It feels like the 2nd unit is going to be smaller for sure once again this year. Obviously Ivey could play some with the 2nd unit handling the ball there same goes for LeVert, Monk or even Thompson.
That would be a really good bench unit they'd probably beat the starters in practice a bunch.
C: Duren(26) / Stew(22)
F: Tobias (27) / Robinson(21)
F: Ausar (26) / LaVert (22)
G: Ivey(27) / Monk (21)
G: Cade(33) / Holland (15) -> or Sasser (15)

Re: Schroder's gone
Only stuff I’ve read is that it WOULD be Malik Monk. There’s talk of it being a 3 team trade with the Warriors, but that would include Kuminga going to the Kings- not seeing any indication of what if anything would be exchanged between us and the Warriors.
And I really don’t think Monk makes sense for us unless another trade was on the horizon after that. I also think trading for a volume scoring inefficient guard with multiple years left on a sizable deal really doesn’t feel like a TL move.
It’s just not an on court fit IMO.

This where I'm at with it. The clamoring for Monk is odd at best considering our salary and roster construction.Snakebites wrote:Only stuff I’ve read is that it WOULD be Malik Monk. I completely agree. I don't understand why most people are so excited about Monk ending up in Detroit and pulling their hair out for Caris LeVert. LeVert is a better player, albeit a more veteran one. I think the Kings are desperate to sign Westbrook and sell jerseys (sports-wise, I'm not sure playing with Schroder and Westbrook is a good idea in 2025). Nobody wants Monk, and I'm sure Trajan will push it to the last minute to get the exception, not the player. We already saw how much he pushed it in the February market when we brought in Schroder, up until five minutes before the deadline.
There's one thing I like about Trajan's management team: they handle salary flexibility incredibly well. We saw it when they cut and re-signed Reed to create space. And now they're playing their cards very well, considering the position Malik left us in. I understand that many people complain about not being exciting, but at the same time, I think they don't realize that what's exciting about Detroit is the young players they have right now.
I'm confident that getting the exception would be fantastic, although I also think a 10-man rotation isn't very likely. We'll see; we might want to offload key players' minutes to reach the playoffs as healthy as possible.
