Ayton’s effort issues behind a horrible perimeter defense combined with Luka and LeBron…

We’re going to see a league record in fingers pointed.

If this happens (still not confirmed) it's basically like getting Mark Williams for free. Ayton's even more talented offensively. Variable motor, but when locked in can leverage great physical tools.

Lakers defense won't be funneling to the paint no matter what. In that scheme Ayton would be pretty lousy.

LA seems like a bad fit for a guy with motivation issues.

I think Ayton is better than Mark honestly.

At least I’d admit Ayton is a more talented offensive player than Mark Williams due to his jumper. His pick and pop mid range legitimately looks like butter when it’s in rhythm, it’s Embiid-esque at times. He’s also a great lob catcher. Ayton with a motor would be an insane offensive fit next to Luka/LeBron.

Williams is a more active on the offensive boards and more of a rim runner type. Hard roller which Ayton historically is inconsistent on. The difference is I think Ayton’s defense is more switchable and active while Mark requires deep drop coverage, which as you said is a terrible fit for LA’s roster.

Kind of reminds me of Elden Campbell. Talented but energy level was all over the place. But wonder how he will handle the LA spotlight.

Too late I was first and it's a bad fit. It's like sending someone with a sweet tooth inside a candy store.

Ayton needs a place where there is nothing to do but hoop and a coach that will hold him accountable. Indy would have been a perfect fit. If Ayton had motivation issues in Phx how do you think he will handle LA?

if he's involved on offense I think he'll try more on defense

I still remember when Jokic stole Ayton's soul from his body in the playoffs a few years ago. It's like the basketball version of the yips. He hasn't been the same player since. On paper, this should be an upgrade, but things are gonna get ugly, like they do for every role player playing with LeBron. I don't know if his fragile psyche can handle it.

That defense though
Luka, Reaves and LeBron (even if he can be good when he wants to, he's gonna turn 41 still) on the perimeter, Ayton in the paint....yeah...

Is there an example of a notoriously lazy player playing with LeBron in the past? There has to be but I can't come up with any names. Like when Ayton is showing up late to and taking it easy in practices, how is that gonna work out?

I don't think he's a good fit anywhere...but he will definitely have both a coach and player who will hold him accountable in LA. LeBron and Reddick aren't going to let laziness slide.

I kind of think that's the last thing he needs, because people holding someone accountable who isn't likely to change is a recipe for trouble.
