So for Beal to be made whole in the $110m - the buyout would have to be $97-98m

I think it's more about a potential guaranteed money in a 3rd year in a deal. Whatever he gets bought out for, he can't really "make up" for it in the next 2 years because that just reduces the amount we have to pay. So0iIf he was to get say $12-15m in a 3rd year then it would make up for the $12-15m buyout amount.

I would be pretty annoyed if CP3 really wanted to come here (if true, could be just leveraging LAC for more money) and the only reason he didn't was because the Suns said no. Like what is the downside?

I honestly would've expected it to be the other way where we desperately could use someone like CP3 but he doesn't want to come back because of how things ended with the Suns.

Like him wanting to come back (again, if true), is kind of a dream scenario for us

I was just thinking if he signed a 2 year 12m deal with the TPE -- -add that to what the suns buying him out, not stretching, that is the $110m. But you make a good point that what happens in year 3. Granted, he would be a free agent either way

Richards with Beal works for Bronny and LeBron

As for CP3 -- personally I think he makes more sense than Richards. So if Paul takes the minimum - -or maybe you put Brea on the 2 way contract., But if Paul truly wants the Suns - he makes sense from a veteran leadership standpoint. Just his presence on the bench.

I wouldn't mind Paul back as he was about the only steadying force we had with the offense, but he's not the guy he was even two years ago. I still don't think he's going to voluntarily come off the bench, so there's that. No matter what kind of shape he's in, he's still better than a second go of "Point Book."

Yeah you're right. If he gets the $12m, then it does largely offset it but when even Ayton can't get more than $8m at 26-27yo, what chance does Beal have at 32

2. Even if he sucked, retired or left after a year, that's an immediate $57.1m off our books the following season.

LA makes a ton of sense for Beal, plays next to Luka and Phx is pretty close to LA so he doesn't have to uproot his family.

(Beal has lived in LA. So he could lift his no trade clause for that, maybe. And LeBron in Phx would just be cap filler and his personal fairwell tour but we are free after next season of his contract. Makes too much season for us but not so much for Beal and James. To be clear I want nothing to do with stat man LeBron but he opens the window to get free a year earlier).
